Christian McCaffery Placed On IR

Wanting to do a Vibe Check on McCaffery

Do you see him as a first round MUST HAVE or Bust to AVOID

Had him last season, as pick #2. Big fan of his work last season

However this season my vibe is ominous. especially with no/low participation through camp. 

Where do you stand on this.

No way in the world would I invest the most valuable capital in the entire draft in a 28 yo Rb with significant injury history coming off 650+ touches over the past two years. To top it off... Niners left tackle Trent Williams who's been a vital backbone to the Niners offensive success in recent years is absolutely refusing to practice or play until he gets paid. The fines are piling up... he don't care. If they don't pay him, he might just retire.

Can't do it.  Rather have Hill or JJ or Lamb or Chase... low risk/damn near guaranteed points. Heck, I'd prefer Breece Hall even though I'm not a big Rb-early guy.

I certainly don't blame anyone who does take McCaff... dude finished 1st and 2nd place the past two years. Just hope they understand the risk.

Given my ohter post this year is about whether ATL will be for real. My RB centric mind is leaning toward Bijan

If I took McCaffery, i might draft 3 rb in first 4 rounds to hedge (note I could start 3 as a flex).

I view WR a bit like QB. many options and depth. just need to not let it slide too far.

Go big or go home. CMC is the best player in FF until he isn’t.  With the well documented way he takes care of himself, with how he plays, and on that team & in that offense, I would not pass on him. What if he misses 2/3 games with a ‘calf strain’ - but is still in his 28yoa prime?  Am still drafting him w/confidence in the hopes of winning the league. Yes, there is risk of injury…there is also risk of passing on the best RB in the game.

I would not say he is going to be a bust but he is being priced as though he will put up the same stats as he did last year. When was the last time the RB1 finished the Rb1 the next season? I think the law of averages would say he is going to regress.

I'd guess Thomlinson '05 & '06? 

That recent history of #1 Rbs is a testament to the risk involved.  I think some just don't want to go against rankings, for fear of being wrong.  Not me - I'm wrong all the time. No issue going against rankings; even "reaching" a round for players I want. And sometimes ignoring the supposedly "best" player.

By mid-season, the original adp sheet will look ridiculous. Just like every year.

CMC is a unicorn. He knows the entire offense. The alpha threat. I think 50 fewer touches with more passes and fewer runs.

49ers have greater depth at wr which may translate into more space for CMC on screens and dump offs.

juaun Jennings took a step up at the end of the year. Plays wr blocks like a mean spirited tight end

I'd be pretty happy to get CMC, I'd just make sure I get Jordan Mason as well

I would probably take Tyreek Hill over CMC, but that's about it.

He comes with risk for sure, but what player doesn't? They all do.

They don't have his upside though

Pretty sure I read somewhere CMC has had as many 35+ point fantasy days as he’s had 10 or less point days.  I took him at #1 yesterday w/o hesitation.  Wondering if Bijan is going to be a bell cow, Hall is going to thrive with a washed up QB, or CMC is going to get hurt are all the same IMO…so I’m taking the proven difference maker over the unproven upside.  I did follow that pick up with Henry at 24 so I’m fairly happy with my advantage over the rest of the league at RB should they stay healthy.

and fully healthy he should be #1 overall.

I do have concerns about his health but Id probably still take him ahead of any of the other RB, but at the same time if I could trade him for the #2 RB on my board and get another asset coming my way Id probably be down for that.

Williams is sign up, another Niners player that simply wanted the summer off.  McCaffrey good to go.

The mates got paid.

Nothing more now than for that man to carry his load.

Just not expecting dominance out of the gate.

 

BTW, had I not signed back up on that CmC bandwagon.
I would have gone down the Bijan rabbit hole with overall #1.

As soon as CMC comes back and has a good game I’m trading him. He burned me years ago with Carolina, swore I would never draft him again.

Mitchell hasn't necessarily been a beacon of health these last two years.  He missed literally 2 full weeks of training camp while Mason was getting all the reps BEFORE he was put on IR.  It pays to follow training camp reports.

The last report I read when I drafted him was that he was expected to sit out the final preseason game but should return week 1 to serve as the primary back up. I appreciate your input though.

Drafted him 1.01. Had I not it would have been Bijon.

But because I did draft CMC, I also secured Mason
Problem, I drafted Mostert and am carrying Jaylen Wright. I didn't think it would be Mostert down, but wanted the MIA rb long term
Oh, also have Gus Edwards (hoping is just a slow start)
