I'm getting the exact opposite take-away than you are, he's not saying there are plans to clamp down on speech, he's saying it's easier than ever to put out false information, and as currently read and interpreted there is nothing that can be down to stop the spreading of that fake information.

There was a guy on Bill Maher this past week, who was suggesting that maybe we don’t extend the 1st amendment to include information that is being pushed by bots, but leave it in place for humans. I wish that they had gotten deeper into the conversation, but alas, it’s Real Time.

Yeah it's a fine line. The more power to censor speech, the more it will be abused. There can't be a single authority tasked with truth, because bias always sets in. I want as much speech allowed as possible. It's up to everyone else to determine what is real.

It's also about to get really wild when videos can be created that look completely real but are fabricated. If we censor those though, it becomes easy to explain any video away as fake.

I look at it like this. Would you want this power in the hands of the party you don't like? If you're OK with that, well at least it's consistent. If you're not, then you will not like this type of censorship once that party gains power.
