Tyler Huntley Starting for the Dolphins Week 4

Recommended Posts

Let's take a closer look at Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley.

28 years old, 6'1" 205 pounds drafted by Baltimore out of Utah where he was a 3 year starter throwing for 7351 yards and whopping 46 TDs while rushing for 1136 yards and tacking on an additional 16 TDs on the ground.

The last major action we saw from Huntley was at the end of 2022 where he led the Ravens into the playoffs over the last 6 games (sitting out week 17).

Over the 5 games he played that season, he completed 67% of his passes, but only averaged 132 yards per game passing and 27 yards per game rushing.

So his statistical profile would indicate he's a check down artist with some limited rushing upside.

Conclusion

Given that Huntley just joined the team last week, and the offense is quite complex, my expectation for the Dolphins offense that already looked shaky against Jacksonville save for an 80 yard TD to Tyreek is that Mike McDaniel will implement a ton of play-action and give Huntley a variety of screens and quick hitting slants.

That'll leave Tyreek and Waddle with some fairly poor stat lines unless they break something loose and take one to the house.  I also have to assume they'll let him take a couple of shots deep off play action, but I haven't seen anything to date that would indicate he has an overly live arm and if he hits something deep it'll have to be pre-planned schemed.

Achane will likely get a healthy dose of carriers and dump offs as well and should be a safe start.

With the Ravens who have lacked really good playmakers like Hill, and Waddle check Downs was probably the best case.
