He’s made a lot of negative news for a transportation secretary. If he was straight he would’ve been canned a long time ago

So the ports would stay open if he was straight?

"a gay homo"? Are you 10?

There are tons of stories out there about the ports potentially closing down: USA Today, ABC News, CNN, CBS News, CNBC, NPR, FOX News, AP, Washington Post, Politico, NY Times, etc

Well, if he gets fired MANY will say its because of his orientation.  If a straight dude gets fired NOBODY ever says boo about sexual orientation.  See how closely knit they are now?

So to combat stupidity the answer is put equally stupid arguments out there? Bold strategy.

His sexual orientation has nothing to do with his success or failure at the job. But keep making mountains out of molehills.

its a joke clearly, but yah I heard about this port thing 2 weeks ago, and now the news is catching up

must have been a conspiracy when I heard about it cause omg it was from a "right wing news source" you would have discredited as non centrist info

CNN had a story about it 2-3 weeks ago as well. Lots of places did. Why do you pretend like these things aren't reported on?

Does the Transportation Secretary have the power to negotiate with labor unions on behalf of the corporations paying them, or vice versa?

No.

This is a labor dispute, and has nothing to do with him or his office. I highly doubt he has any authority as an intermediary, either.

This is a retarded thread. Muh gay homo, muh MSM

Nevermind, I don't need to click on anything from Breitbart, RedState or PJM. I'll just call your BS and leave it at that.

In late 2022, Southwest Airlines melted down, canceling nearly 17,000 flights smack in the middle of holiday travel, the largest airline disruption in U.S. history. In early 2023, an FAA outage grounded all domestic departures, leading to more than 1,300 cancellations and over 10,000 delays. Around that time, a freight train derailed near the town of East Palestine, Ohio, and spewed toxic fumes into the community’s air and soil. Meanwhile, about 100 people die every single day in car crashes on American roads. And this year, part of a Boeing plane fell off in midair, sucking passengers’ clothing out of the gaping hole and bringing scrutiny to a company that has allegedly cut corners with little blowback from the government.

“It’s been a slow start,” said Senator Elizabeth Warren. That means some of what he has proposed is at risk of never becoming reality, while plenty of other options to transform the sector languish untouched. Even before the disastrous 2022 holiday flying season, 38 state attorneys general accused the DOT of failing to “respond and to provide appropriate recourse” regarding the pile of consumer complaints they were receiving about airlines, and Senators Warren and Alex Padilla urged Buttigieg to use his authority to “protect consumers and promote competition” as cancellations and delays grew worse. For some, these achievements go only so far. Warren praised the secretary for coming out against the JetBlue-Spirit merger. “But we need to do a whole lot more,” she said. Buttigieg has plenty of tools to improve flying that are still sitting untouched.

Buttigieg could also require railroads to participate in the confidential close-call reporting program that allows employees to report possible dangers free of disciplinary repercussions. Buttigieg called on railroads to join immediately after East Palestine; they all vowed to do so, but only two major railroads have.

“We’ve squandered an opportunity the last four years to really push the needle forward on rail safety, and it’s just stagnated,” Wolf said.

Thank you. That seems bad. Maybe he does deserve to be fired.

I wonder how his performance stacks up against former Transportation secretaries, though? What have they done to avert things like this previously? And what can SoT do to prevent an FAA "outage" whatever that means? My guess is that road fatalities are not something he can meaningfully address. What authority does he have to compel the major railroad companies to adopt the reporting program? Can he fine them, cancel licenses, etc?

When you know the real reason why being gay has become so important to the left but they have absolutely no clue why it's such a big deal now.
