Something you will never buy because of it's price. On principle alone.

Recommended Posts

Not because you can't afford it, but rather because the pricing is just stupid.

I imagine we all spend money on expensive things because we like those things a lot. I have knife collection of sorts. Work knives, hand axes, kitchen knives, pocket knives, etc. I'm intrigued with the various steels and functionalities and designs. That's one of my things. I have spent thousands over the years and enjoy it.

But hell, that's just a hobby type of thing. There are things out there I like but on principle alone, just refuse to buy because the prices are stupid.

Here is one of them. I admit that I like McDonalds. I eat there when it comes up. Maybe I'm headed to the airport or in a strange town for some reason and want a breakfast. Maybe I eat there once a quarter. But here is my item. McDonalds hash browns are priced at $2.69. I love them. So good with a sausage McMuffin with egg. I usually buy two hash browns. But holy hell, I've never looked at the price before. These days you get one hash brown for $2.69? You gotta be kidding me.

When did the hash browns get that expensive?  That’s ridiculous.  Is that a California, NYC price?

No clue. And I live in between. But bigger cityish area none the less. Democrat run. I never look at prices that much but am now intrigued by stuff like this. A small slice of chopped up potato, some breading, and cheap fryer oil that is reused all day. Almost $3. Wow.

I was going to take the family to a game over at West Point . 120 dollars a pop plus the BS fees. To sit on aluminum bleachers. GTFO. Parking and whatever else I was looking at 700 bucks.

Just a data point. I did a McD's Breakfast run Sunday Morning.  2  Egg McMuffin meals, ( so 2 hash browns also) one with a coke one with a coffee. Then one McGriddle a la cart..  $23.34 In CA was the total.

I remember 15 or so years ago when it was 2/$1 for their hashbrowns….

Agreed. Especially not a Tesla. They are poorly made.  My brother has one.  He drives his Audi more often.

I guess they max out the pricing on the things that are most bought and cost the cheapest. Pop and potatoes.

I bought an 18 pack of miller lite the other day. Cost me like $19.50. Granted it's cheap beer (I'm sick of microbrew unless I go to the brewery itself), but dang, a buck a beer ain't bad. I bet if they sold hash browns for 50 cents even today they would be making 40+ cents per hashbrown.

I've never been a strip bar guy. I've been a couple times but I don't get it. Don't guys see girls naked in their personal lives enough? Why look at girls you can't touch, when you can go out and meet girls that consent to you touching them? At no cost. Hell, sometimes they even pay for the food or drink.

Now hookers? I guess I can see that appeal. Maybe you don't want to put in the time and deal with unknown personalities. I get it but I never have gone down that route. Maybe if I lived in Vegas, but, not sure.

100% agreed.  I like Strip Clubs because I brought dates there.  The music is good.  And you can kinda bond with your date over talking about Candy or Cinnimon's body. Or how Bentley can't dance.  It's just a fun date night.     The creepy guys who get lap dances wearing sweat pants are weird though.   Hookers...? Don't get me started on how awesome Amsterdam is.

Rolex or comparable expensive watches.  I like looking at watches but I’m not one of those “watch guys.”  I was recently admiring a Tudor watch with a $5k tag.  Wife was encouraging me to splurge on it with some weak-@ss YOLO argument.  I could but I simply would never.

Yeti. I own enough, but I was looking to get another tumbler or something and their prices have doubled since I first started buying them. I’ll take an RTIC now for what yeti’s used to cost.

Honestly a new car period. Gas or electric. They are far too expensive.

My wife wants a Tudor watch. Either one of us can easily afford it but practicality always gets in the way in her thoughts so I don't just buy her one. She may not appreciate it. She does spend freaking large on clothing though. She justifies it because they last her years given the quality of the material.

NFL games, especially on the road. I love going to stadiums, tailgating, talking to fans of the other team, the whole experience. But for a family of 4 I'll spend well over a grand just to attend the game, eat and drink. That's not including travel or accommodations, which will run at least another grand.

All so I can leave the awesome tailgate and go into a stadium full of drunk a-holes screaming obscenities at my kids for wearing the visiting jersey? Nope. I love football, but the NFL can suck a bag of dlcks.

Nothing because of price.

Many things because it's financially irresponsible.  Brand new cars comes to mind.

I get that totally. And I have a brother in law who never bought a new car in his life and he has been making $200k+ for years now. But for some reason, I normally buy new. Not wise as an "investment", but I don't see cars as investments. I consider a car a "splurge" item.  If I buy a car for $40,000 and have it 10-12 years, I'm good with that.

NFL games are way too good on TV to go through the hassle of going to the event and spending all the money for that. I would like to go to a game in Arizona though. I heard that stadium is pretty amazing. Minor league baseball is more fun for in person entertainment purposes.

A - Because a like new last year's model would be about $32,000.  20% on average loss in a single year.

B - Hopefully you pay cash.  Car loans are one of the worst financial decisions.

I'd like a nice watch too. But as the saying goes if you have to look at your Rolex to see when your break is over it's no flex.

I haven't had a car loan since my first car when I was 20. They got me good on that one and I eventually paid it off. But it's been cash buys ever since. It still feels so good sitting at a dealership just handing them a check and them giving me the title to a car I really want to enjoy. Also being able to dictate the cost, as best I can anyway.

I’m a pragmatist, too.  What’s your wife’s number?  She and I might click.  🤣

Bottled water. Only time I've ever bought it was when I've stayed in hotels for work stuff.

Ask her for it. I already have both your wife's and your daughter's numbers so no need to pass them along. 😆

God yes. What some people will pay for designer water like Fiji is insane. Dog treats. Amazing that people will pay $50 (or more) a pound for dog treats because they allegedly contain lamb.

These are the people you hear about in stories stating a substantial percentage of Americans couldn't afford an unexpected $600 auto repair bill.

A really high end fishing rod.  I can't bring myself to spend $500 on a rod knowing I could easily break it.

Jesus. DO NOT BOTHER. Had one of my worst experiences watching an NFL game there in 2009. Sterile as hell inside, the scoreboard visibility was crap from where we sat, and the fans were super duper douchey. This was right after they went to the SB, so everyone there had cared about the Cards for about 10 seconds, but they acted like Steelers or Packer fans. The people behind us yelled at my wife for holding up a sign during a commercial break, with no action on the field.

We ran into some Viking fans at Sky Harbor the next day. Lady said the crowd was taunting her 12-yr old son after EJ Henderson broke his leg. Literally the last place I would ever go for another game, pro or college.

Now if you're talking about Chase Field, that's different. Highly recommend. People are a lot cooler at baseball games, though.

And you never will if Kamala is elected.

At least you have that clean, beautiful Philadelphia Transit System to take you to work at the Glory Hole on the Weekends 😄

Gasoline is dirt cheap. It was $1.25 a gallon in 1980. Take today's price and adjust it for inflation. It's actually down. Then compare it to prices of certain other things in 1980. Rent, homes, one year higher ed tuition, healthcare insurance, a loaf of bread, a pound of burger, new windows, new siding, a hot water heater, furnace/AC, etc

We have a lot of things to complain about in America, the price of gasoline isn't one of them.
