The most important news story of our lifetimes

I figure we’re about 20-30 years away from this making a difference in our lives. If President Trump wants to make a serious investment in might be sooner (and it would make him, IMO, one of our greatest and most important Presidents, despite everything else and no matter what my personal opinion is of him.)

If humanity conquers nuclear fusion, there is not a single problem we face now that won’t be solved.

Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of everyone, and rose the third day= Salvation for those that accept Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior.

Revelation. 22:21.  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.  Indeed Amen Thanks

I'm not trying to hijack your thread (it's very interesting) but with all due respect, unless MMT turns out to be effective over long periods of time, none of this will matter.

Modern monetary theory (MMT): Anything that is technically feasible is financially affordable. A government that creates its own currency can borrow in that currency & then pay off the resulting debt by creating more of it. What's that old saying regarding something that sounds too good to be true ?

If US debt compounds at the same rate it has over the past 44 years, by 2068, it will stand at 1.190 quadrillion.

If you add current & future unfunded liabilities relating to Social Security & Medicare, it could be as much as 7 or 8 x that.

I agree with the sentiment and excitement over this but sadly the ongoing observation is always that we're 20-30 years away. Fusion is the Winds of Winter of the science world.

How so?

The nearly limitless supply of power will be in the hands of a few.  They will undoubtably charge for providing it to others thereby becoming exorbitantly wealthy.  That they might provide it at less relative cost to us than we currently pay would be nice, if that happened, but how does it solve our every problem?  Does it resolve our health issues?  Does it cure the human condition removing greed, covetousness, ambition, ignorance, bigotry, religious intolerance or the desire some have to have dominion over others so that they can feel superior and important?  Will it clean our air and water and remove toxins from our soil?  Will it make us be kind and tolerant of our fellow humans?

In history whenever new, great sources of power were harnessed they were harnessed for both production and destruction.  How would this be any different than fire, steal, gunpowder, rifling, internal combustion and oil prodcution or fusion?  They were all great power and greatly misused from time to time to gain advantage and to oppress.    Certainly less reliance on carbon based fuels will have somepositive impacts on the environment and will negate some of the leverage some have in regional conflicts but I see it shifting playing fields (conflict points), not curing the human condition, and it is the human condition which needs to be cured.  We are petty, jealous and vengeful creatures.  We are likely better having less destructive power, not more.

Tim is one brainwashed idiot.   He really believes all the crap the elitist fed us to divide and control us, from global warming to institutionalized racism.  Whatever crap is spewed by someone in position of authority is truth and can not be questioned by us peons.   The reason leftist in here hate me calling them 'bootlickers' because they know it is spot on and it hurts.

For the 6th grade science fair, I did a report on fusion reactors as the future of energy and I only got a 3rd place award, finishing below the guy who brought in sea-monkeys.  So I'm pretty sure it's not a feasible idea and think we should look more into sea-monkey solutions.

Forgive me for not holding my breath waiting for the most important story of our lifetimes.

You were sweating your little ass off, trying to read, comprehend, and explain complicated physics theories in 6th grade, only to turn around and lose to a kid that got to play with monkeys? That sort of thing will traumatize people for life.

I have a higher opinion of humanity than you do. I think poverty, lack of education,  along with fear that change will take away what you have are the main sources of pettiness, vengefulness, jealousy, and bigotry. (Not to mention crime.) i think an almost infinitely cheap and unlimited energy source can solve a lot of those issues. As far as health, the technologies created are almost unimaginable at this point but I belong that unlimited energy will lead to unlimited funding to find cures and new vaccines.

Of course I don’t foresee a world without problems; it’s just that they will be new problems that we’re not dealing with now. Think of it, historically, as a new Industrial Revolution, only a lot faster and even more impactful.

I always felt an obese man that though he was a woman being put in charge of the nations health was a bigger story and should have been given more attention. It’s completely absurd yet it happened with little to no pushback.

Of course not. They wanted people to think it's normal.

I, for one, welcome our sea-monkey overlords!
