SaintsInDome2006 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 WSJ: There Are 47,635 Epstein Files Offline for Review, DOJ Says Among the unreleased documents are a woman’s unverified allegations against President Trump >>>The Justice Department has withheld thousands of documents from the Epstein files, including FBI documents that detailed a woman’s unverified allegations of sexual misconduct against President Trump, according to a review by The Wall Street Journal. After a Journal analysis identified more than 40,000 files that appeared to be missing from documents posted to the DOJ’s website, a Justice Department spokeswoman said that “47,635 files were offline for further review and should be ready for re-production by the end of the week.” The withheld files included Federal Bureau of Investigation notes documenting a series of interviews the woman gave to agents in 2019 in which she alleged sexual misconduct by Trump and Jeffrey Epstein when she was a minor in the 1980s, according to copies of the documents reviewed by the Journal. Trump has denied wrongdoing and said the Epstein files “totally exonerated” him. Those documents are similar to many witness statements with unverified claims that were released by the government in January, raising questions about why they weren’t included with the millions of files made public. The Justice Department was required to release to the public such witness statements, under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The woman, who claimed she was abused as a minor by Epstein, was deemed ineligible for the Epstein Victims’ Compensation Program, which paid settlements to more than 130 Epstein victims. Her attorneys at the Bloom Firm declined to comment. The Justice Department included a summary of the woman’s allegations within the Epstein files in January and a so-called Form 302 from the woman’s first interview in which she alleged that Epstein abused her in South Carolina. It didn’t release three other Form 302s, including the interviews in which she discussed Trump. The Justice Department hasn’t explained why the Form 302s weren’t released. The department said last week that it was conducting a review to see whether any materials were “improperly tagged in its review process” and, if so, that it would release them. Officials have said that they complied with the law and didn’t withhold documents embarrassing to Trump and that many of the files kept offline contain nudity. “This is the most transparent Department of Justice in history,” the DOJ spokeswoman said. She said the department was working to address victim concerns and redact personally identifiable information and any images of a sexual nature. She said all responsive documents would be published online once proper redactions are made. Under the law, the department was required to release most government files, including Form 302s. It could withhold files if they are duplicates; fall under attorney-client privilege; could hurt a continuing investigation; or are completely unrelated to the Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cases. The law prohibits the department from withholding or redacting files because they could be embarrassing to public figures. Democrats in Congress have said they would investigate. White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said: “By releasing thousands of pages of documents, cooperating with the House Oversight Committee’s subpoena request, signing the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and calling for more investigations into Epstein’s Democrat friends, President Trump has done more for Epstein’s victims than anyone before him.” The documents show the woman, whose name is redacted, had four meetings with Federal Bureau of Investigation agents in 2019, after Epstein was arrested and during Trump’s first term in the White House. She initially made allegations that Epstein sexually abused her and told agents she was reluctant to discuss Trump, the FBI’s notes from the interviews show. In the interviews, the woman told agents that she was aware that because she was claiming abuse from years earlier, “the statutes of limitation of any viable federal violation may have run. She asked agents, ‘what’s the point?’” according to the documents. Agents reassured her that all victims of crime should have an opportunity to tell their stories. In her meetings with the FBI, the documents show that the woman detailed her allegations from an encounter she claimed Epstein arranged with Trump in New York or New Jersey when she was about 13 to 15 years old, which haven’t been verified. She was “introduced to someone with money, money…. It was Donald Trump,” according to the documents. She also claimed to have had two additional interactions with Trump. Justice Department officials have cautioned that some files include fake or false materials that were sent to the FBI by the public. “Some of the documents contain untrue and sensationalist claims against President Trump that were submitted to the FBI right before the 2020 election,” the department said in a Jan. 30 press release. The woman joined a Jane Doe lawsuit in 2019 against the Epstein estate, claiming Epstein sexually abused her around 1984 when she was about 13. The lawsuit said Epstein flew her to New York and trafficked her to “prominent wealthy men.” The lawsuit didn’t name the men. Her suit was voluntarily dismissed in 2021.<<< Quote

SaintsInDome2006 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Epstein’s New Mexico Ranch Gets Scrutiny at Last. It May Be Too Late. >>> One of Jeffrey Epstein’s most secretive and least scrutinized former properties is not an island. But it might as well be. His palatial 30,000-square-foot New Mexico mansion sits on a ridge overlooking thousands of acres of southwestern land he named Zorro Ranch. A sea of tufted grass, prickly cholla cactus and cracked arroyos, the sparsely populated high desert south of Santa Fe is a land where the nearest neighbors are miles away and most everyone minds their own business. Some of the financier’s victims have said they were trafficked there, famous figures visited, and Mr. Epstein mused about turning Zorro into a headquarters for outlandish genetic engineering experiments. And yet, New Mexico leaders say there has never been a thorough investigation of the criminal activity that may have occurred at the ranch during the 26 years the convicted sex offender owned it. A state-led inquiry into Mr. Epstein’s actions was taken over by federal prosecutors in 2019, and then apparently fizzled, according to New Mexico officials and recently unsealed records. …. Last month, lawmakers in New Mexico, spurred by the Justice Department’s latest release of Epstein documents, voted unanimously to change that, impaneling a bipartisan four-member “truth commission” in the State Legislature, equipped with subpoena power, to probe the sordid history of Zorro Ranch. The state’s attorney general also announced he would reopen an investigation his office had closed shortly before Mr. Epstein’s death in 2019. …. The year of Mr. Epstein’s death, 2019, was also the year the trail went cold in the high desert. As the criminal case against Mr. Epstein gained momentum, the New Mexico attorney general’s office was interviewing witnesses about his possible wrongdoing locally. But federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York asked the state authorities to stop their work and share all they had found with federal officials, according to Hector Balderas, a former New Mexico attorney general, and recently released emails. The prosecutors believed their case would be stronger if they led the investigation, Mr. Balderas recalled. But a year later, he decided federal authorities were not being aggressive enough, and his office sent a letter urging them to seize Mr. Epstein’s New Mexico assets. “We believe that this ranch was used by Epstein and others to facilitate the commission and prolonged concealment of his trafficking of children,” the letter read. Mr. Balderas did not receive a reply. The Southern District of New York directed a request for comment to the Justice Department, which did not respond. “There should have been more convictions that were tied to conduct in New Mexico,” Mr. Balderas said. The tip about buried bodies was originally sent in 2019 to Mr. Aragon, who said he alerted local authorities. He never heard back. But the Land of Enchantment, as New Mexico calls itself, has long held its secrets close. In the 1940s, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers chose a mesa called Los Alamos for its covert Manhattan Project. Researchers detonated the first-ever atomic bomb on a missile range outside the city of Alamogordo and concealed it for weeks. In recent decades, the rich and famous have flocked there to purchase vast tracts of remote land surrounded by stunning scenery and few other people. Asked how Zorro Ranch could have avoided scrutiny for so long, several residents replied, “It’s New Mexico.” …<<< Quote
SaintsInDome2006 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 The ‘Crazy’ Plot to Release the Epstein Files ~~~ How an unlikely duo of lawmakers partnered with victims to try to hold the powerful accountable >>> The extraordinary lengths President Donald Trump allegedly went to keep his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein out of the spotlight included trying to poach the staff of a GOP nemesis. Rep. Thomas Massie claims key members of his team were offered more prestigious jobs in the Trump administration in an effort to stall legislation that would have forced the Department of Justice to release all documents linked to Jeffrey Epstein, according to The Atlantic. The Kentucky libertarian told the magazine there was a “360-pressure campaign” from the Trump administration to derail his push for a congressional vote on releasing the so-called Epstein files last summer—pressure so intense it rippled across his entire orbit. Most notably, Massie recalled multiple instances in which his staffers were offered administration posts or lucrative private-sector roles. One employee, he told The Atlantic, received an offer that would have doubled his salary just weeks before the House was set to vote on releasing the files. “Did it ever occur to you that they might be offering you this job to basically make me less effective?” Massie said he asked the staffer. The aide, who turned down the job, replied, “That’s what my mom said.” The White House reportedly made similar overtures to the MAGA-aligned women in Congress who joined Massie and his Democratic ally, Rep. Ro Khanna, in spearheading the Epstein effort—including former Georgia lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene, South Carolina’s Nancy Mace, and Colorado’s Lauren Boebert.<<< TDB (summary) Quote
