Hey guys I’m back! Been gone a few weeks, thought it would be longer, but politics have gotten pretty interesting havent they? 
 

I missed you guys. Well most of you anyhow. So what’s up?

On this latest news: is it reasonable for me to think that Senator Padilla was rude to interrupt , rude to shout, AND it was completely ridiculous and unwarranted to throw him to the ground and handcuff him, AND it’s way over the top for Democratic leaders to act like this action is the “end of our democracy”? Because that’s my initial impression.

Good to hear from you Strike. Of course there is great irony in you regarding ANY of my posts as pathetic, but I’ll let that go. Sincerely hope you and yours are well. 

As to your question: I didn’t expect the economy to crash, though it could; I expected it to go down very badly  IF President Trump carried through on his tariffs. So far he hasn’t all the way, though he has already done so much damage that I think we’re in for a downturn anyhow starting sometime later this summer. I hope I’m wrong about that and I’m happy that I’m wrong so far.

Anyone starting fires or looting or rioting should be arrested and punished. I think we can agree on that even if not much else.

Regarding inflation:

According to this analysis, the reason that tariffs haven’t yet raised prices is because companies are still relying on their current inventories. That makes sense but it also projects that prices WILL go up, and rapidly, later this summer. Unless Trump quickly backs off again. I certainly hope he does.

I think Trump’s tariffs, and his immigration policies, are bad decisions that will lead to bad outcomes for our economy. I’m not in fear of those outcomes; I anticipate them but they’re fixable.

I disagree tim. It was a very stupid stunt no matter what political party did this. He wanted to make a spectacle and he succeeded just not the way he envisioned .Hes a senator and acted like a jackass

Again my initial impression is that you’re right about his behavior. But tackling him and handcuffing him was completely unnecessary and over the top, and that’s the part I have a feeling most people will remember, not his poor behavior. The reason they’ll remember it is because it fits into the meme of the Trump administration being authoritarian and heavy handed.

So I read yesterday that Trump said his two favorite Broadway shows of all time are Evita and Les Miserables (he went to see Les Miz last night.) That’s actually something we have in common, mostly: Evita is also my favorite show and Les Miz top 5. 
 

Of course the irony here is amazing: The theme of Les Miserables is the conflict between morality and the law when they find themselves opposed, and Hugo and his hero ValJean are clearly on the side of qmorality, whereas his villain,  Javert (and Trump himself) argue for a self- serving no and order. Meanwhile Evita is about a populist right wing politician who embraces authoritarianism.
