MINNEAPOLIS (Gray News) - A manhunt is underway after two Minnesota lawmakers were shot in their homes by a man impersonating a police officer. 

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz confirmed Rep. Melissa Hortman and her spouse were shot and killed in their home in Brooklyn Park. 

Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were also shot multiple times in their home, Walz said. Hoffman and his wife were hospitalized and remain alive at this time.

Walz called the shootings a targeted attack. 

“This was an act of targeted political violence,” Walz said. 

The Brooklyn Police Department has issued a shelter-in-place order as police look for the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous.

According to KSTP, the suspect is described as a white man with brown hair wearing black body armor over a blue shirt and blue pants. 

Residents are asked not to approach the man if they spot him and to call 911. KMSP also reported that since the man is impersonating police, authorities have told residents not to answer the door unless they see two police officers or to call 911 to confirm the identity of the officers.

Walz said online has activated the State Emergency Operation Centers. 

KBJR reported local law enforcement and Capitol Security are posted outside the homes of lawmakers in the Twin Cities and that Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth has a marked vehicle outside her home.

Both Hoffman and Hortman are members of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. Hoffman has served in the Minnesota State Senate since 2013. Hortman was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2004.

Minnesota authorities have advised all male strippers headed to bachelorette parties to dress as Firefighters rather than Police Officers until such time as the shooting suspect is apprehended..  Also, if they know of a member of their community with a grievance against the targeted lawmakers they are encouraged to provide the contact information to authorities.

I don’t understand how Walz can know for sure at this stage that these murders were politically motivated. The story doesn’t explain that. Usually motivation takes a long time to determine, even when the culprit has been captured.

It is unconfirmed, but I have been seeing multiple reports that the man who kiIIed Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman this morning had “NO KINGS” fliers in his car.

With the targets being lawmakers I would guess this is politically motivated.  Now what politics that is remains to be determined.  it may be partisan party politics.  It may be strictly local issues effecting one person.  Hell it could be they went along with adverse possession of his land, a non-partisan matter.  It could be them agreeing to increase the fishing license fee or them ignoring his multiple requests to change the State flower.  We will have a clearer picture soon enough.

REPORT: Shortly before Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman was shot and k*lled, she broke down in tears in front of cameras after siding with Republicans.

Hortman was the lone Democrat who voted to cut health care access for adult illegal immigrants.

"I did what leaders do... I stepped up and I got the job done for the people of Minnesota."

Hortman and her husband were k*lled shortly after this video was taken in their home. Police believe it was politically motivated.
