In Sacramento for the next 24 hours

Recommended Posts

Just got back from a camping trip and have the next 24 hours or so to kill here til my flight tomorrow. Suggestions on food, sights? I love walking and am prolly gonna get a hotel near the airport so what’s the best option there?

All ideas and suggestions are welcome, TIA :)

I'll defer to @SUXBNME and @TheNewGirlwho live in the area, but I would stay downtown.  There is a pretty fun bar/restaurant scene including a live mermaid at one place!  Also a western-themed street near the capital IIRC.

Our airport is kind of in the middle of a HUGE field, so if you get a hotel near the airport, the only thing you'll have to do is walk around that area.

You can go into North Natomas, which is the closest city. They will have restaurants and stuff there. But might be a little drive.

Ive always wanted to do the underground tour there. The original town is actually underneath where you're walking around.

I dont know if they do that during the week but it might be cool if you're into historical stuff.

Wow.  Seattle is the same way.  I didn't know that about Sacramento.  I've done the Seattle underground tour.  Now I have to get back to Sacramento for theirs

I started to walk from my hotel to here but saw numerous sketchy peeps and many many homeless tents. Ended up calling an Uber instead. Will I die if I try to walk home from the bar

Being right next to the river, I think it used to flood frequently. So they built a new town on top of the old one. Supposedly haunted, although that might just be a marketing ploy.

I like old timey America type stuff, so I've always wanted to do it. One of these days.

I looked it up.  What's interesting is that Seattle burned down and they just built right on top of what was left of it.

Yeah, why would you want to clean up first?

From what I recall it was because they just didn't have time.  The whole city burned down and they needed to get it back up and running.

I guess I can understand the sense of urgency to get things back up and running, I just pictured new buildings being constructed on top of the ruins of the previous buildings. It just struck me as being a little dangerous.

But, Seattle is still standing, so I guess they knew what they were doing.
