2nd only to Oakland, by size comparison, in abysmal officer to population ratio.  But, you would think people would beating down the door with marketing like this…

-Initiatives include a $1 million "Imagine Yourself" recruitment campaign launched in 2024 to attract diverse and younger candidates

-30x30 Initiative to boost female recruits to 30% by 2030

I can't imagine an actual patriot wanting that job. Putting your life on the line every day? In that state? There's better ways to make a living.

I’m not sure what you expect them to do.  Apparently @Strike thinks every DHS officer should have a MPD escort.  Is that what you think as well?  The chief clearly says they have 600 officers and there are thousands of DHS officers, it would be impossible to do that.

I don’t disagree MPD is understaffed, whether intentional or otherwise. But, it’s not like they would be tripping over themselves to help if they had 6000 officers.  They’re rhetoric and policy against corporation with ICE is long standing, and has certainly ramped up since 2024

Why does Minneapolis have so few police officers?

Because it was a safe place to live before ICE showed up.

Was it safer when they had 900 cops?

In the clip you posted the chief seems to blame the reduction in officers on “the destruction of the city after 2020,” which doesn’t really sound like something an extreme liberal would say if that’s what you’re implying

Well, if you haven’t seen the ramp up in rhetoric, I’m not sure what to tell you.  Policies were revised last year to specify any interaction to be approved by Deputy Chief, outlined discipline for anyone cooperating without approval, made it illegal for ICE to even gather on city property, etc.

Well, kind of.  MPD doesn’t look at ICE as a collective.  They will render assistance to individual ICE agents who may need help, as they would any other citizen, which they are required to by law.  That’s it. That’s not “back up”, that’s a citizen 911 call. Also, though I have no idea what context LC was eluding to.

So when you say “back up,” do you think that’s supposed to mean assist in immigration enforcement?  Because that’s all the policies you just mentioned refer to.

What I’m saying is, if ICE legitimately needs help, MPD is responding to basically assist armed individual citizens. They’re not responding in a mindset of “officer needs assistance”.  They’re basically going because, I’m sure in MN statute, responsibilities of duties to act are spelled out.  Their intention, no matter what the circumstances, is that they are not going with the mindset to assist another law enforcement agency.

Their job is to keep the people in their city safe.   Their job is not to enforce federal immigration law.

I am interested to see how the relationship between the right and left goes from here.

The left gets more radicalized by the day. We will never see eye to eye with them at all politically. So what happens from here? How do we resolve this growing divide?

Well they let two of their constituents die this week by not isolating them from ICE/BP so they're doing a piss poor job if their job is to keep people in their city safe.

If ICE calls the PD requesting backup

Ok I’m done.  I have no idea where you going with this now.  I got in this to confirm there is no calls for “back up” in the traditional sense, they’re only going to help because they have to. They have no desire to help. ICE can’t even communicate with MPD.  It would have to be a 911 call.

This is not how agencies operate with each other. Hack is clueless. Don’t bother.

When I said “backup,” I was referring to in the sense that either one of DHS’s officers or the public was in danger.  You seem to be thinking that “backup” means helping ICE pickup some landscapers from the Home Depot.

MPD posted a website showing the history of regular cooperation with DHS. DHS decided to burn that bridge; we all can see that plainly by them refusing to let MPD investigate when they killed a Minnesota resident in Minnesota. You’re getting it twisted.

Well you shouldn’t automatically assume random x posters are telling the truth.  Doesn’t look like downtown to me, where are the rest of the city buildings?  Could be in a different part of Minneapolis though.  Actually it looks like it might be “University Area.”  But I did see that there had previously been protests at the Home2 in Bloomington.

It's our consolation for never playing in the Super Bowl again.  This year, we either get Darnold winning or we get Diggs winning!
