Fnord Posted January 29 Posted January 29 13 hours ago, KSB2424 said: I'm not reading 58 pages but how did Minnesota become the refuge, the bastion of all immigration (both legal and illegal)? I get New York and San Francisco....big cities with liberal universities. But Minnesota? Even places like Portland. I live in NC, we have a lot of immigration, both legal and illegal. There was an emphasis and ICE presence here a month or two ago. Local news did run with some anti-ice stories and there was some traction but for the most part they came, picked up the folks they were targeting and were in and out. Probably how it was done under previous administrations both R and D. I'm not from the Midwest, never actually visited. I've been up and down the east coast, Texas to California. Why is Minnesota the Mecca of all of this? This would be a good thesis for a college age kid to deep dive into. Lots of theories, and of course it depends on which "side" your on as to what you'll ultimately believe, but I'll try to lay things out factually. I live in MN. MN has one of the best social safety nets in the country. I have heard reports that that figures into why the Somalis came here, and also why there was a huge Hmong influx in the 70s and 80s after Vietnam. How true that is, I'm not sure. The democratic party in MN is dumb (that's probably redundant, the party is dumb everywhere) and cowardly. Sorry, now I'm mixing in some opinion. When initial reports of fraud came out years ago, auditors discovering it couldn't find anyone to listen. Essentially the answer they got from Dems in power was "meh, we will look like racists if we shut down charities run by black people" so they continued to ignore the issues for a long time. Finally some folks started listening, and the prosecutions came. The vast majority of those found to be a part of that initial wave of fraud were tried and imprisoned. This all happened long before ICE came to town, though there are unrelated ongoing investigations. Tim Walz and Donald Trump hate each other's guts. Neither of them is inclined to cooperate with the other in the least. ICE came to town and the admin used the fraud as a significant factor for the deployment. However, ICE has NO JURISDICTION over crimes like fraud, so we know this is just a cover story. Trump is still convinced he won MN in the last 3 elections, and we've all seen that dog with that bone and what can happen. ICE and affiliated agents on the streets outnumber the MPD by 3- or 4-1. There have been contradicting reports as to whether the feds asked for local and state law enforcement assistance, but the reality is that MPD has nothing close to enough resources to be running interference for an operation that large. They spend most of their time responding to people calling them about ICE, not trying to maintain crowd control ICE has been told, publicly and repeatedly, that they are okay to use tactics that violate any number of constitutional amendments, the 4th being the most egregious. There have been MANY reports of them illegally entering homes without warrants, lying to gain access, assaulting peaceful protestors, violating court orders, etc. The Good shooting was not even investigated by the feds, and because they had all the evidence and wouldn't share it, the state cops had to close theirs as well. Mpls residents still have 2020 in their heads and those scars run deep. Mostly I'm proud of how our citizens have handled themselves, but fully acknowledge that directly interfering is not a good tactic. Neither is throwing snowballs, vandalizing hotels with agents in them, or invading churches during Sunday morning services. Lots of anger and blame to go around. It boils down to this: federal agents are conducting themselves in direct contradiction to the law. They are racial profiling, arresting legal immigrants and US citizens on false pretexts, the list goes on. There are stories of off duty police officers being detained and threatened by ICE. A number of high profile prosecutors that helped put away the Somali fraudsters have now resigned because they were asked to investigate Renee Good and her partner. One candidate running for gov. as a Republican just pulled himself from the race because of this. Which is a shame, because listening to him talk, he'd be an excellent candidate, and he can't stand Walz or AG Ellison, either. From here, you can go lots of directions, but nobody really knows why such a large operation is occurring in a state that does not have a big illegal immigrant problem, using fraud as a cover for agents with no authority to investigate it. Walz and Mpls mayor Frey are so anti-Trump that they can't see the forest for the trees and self sabotage; Trump hates them right back and seems intent on provoking a big fight, for whatever reasons. 1 1 Quote

Drizzay Posted January 29 Posted January 29 My current conspiracy theory: Trump blames Harris/Walz ticket for the attempted assassination. And he is going to make the next 3 years as painful as possible for them. And the Deep State is ok with it, because they were the ones that gave to go ahead to assassinate a former president, with the caveat that if the organizers of this fock it up (which they did), the deep state isnt going to interfere and stop the wrath that comes after it. Basically: "You put in the order, we approved, but you missed. Now bend over and take it like a big boy." Quote

easilyscan Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 A day or 2 ago I told KSB2424 that I'd put together a summary of Minnesota's history regarding refugees & immigrants. I spent a couple hours looking through all my files & folders last night & realized there's far too much information to consolidate into one post. Instead of going that route, I'll just cover one story/issue at a time starting with the following. Mark Dayton was governor of Minnesota from January 3, 2011, to January 7, 2019. A member of the (DFL), he was elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2014, with his tenure focusing on economic recovery, education funding, and infrastructure. Current governor Tim Walz is also a member of the DFL party. DFL = Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) or as many refer to it, the Dumb For Life Party To give you an idea of why Minnesota is the Mecca, we'll go back to Mark Dayton in 2015. However, before I get to that, something else that most people don't know has to be pointed out. Minnesota isn't just a Mecca for Somali. Hmong California has the highest Hmong population in the United States, with over 107,000 residents. Other top states include Minnesota (approx. 95,000) and Wisconsin (approx. 55,000). While California has the largest state-wide population, the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area is the largest urban concentration of Hmong people. Liberian Minnesota has the largest Liberian population in the United States, with estimates ranging between 20,000 and 35,000 people, particularly concentrated in the Twin Cities. While other areas like the New York City metropolitan area and Maryland have significant populations, Minnesota is widely considered to have the highest concentration. One more point before I get to Mark Dayton To give you an idea of why Minnesota is the Mecca for such a disproportionate number of refugees, here's a letter Governor Tim Walz & Lieutenant governor Peggy Flanagan wrote to President Joe Biden on August 19, 2021 Dear President Biden: Like people across the globe, Minnesotans have watched the events unfolding in Afghanistan with grief and sadness. Minnesotans believe in treating all people with respect and dignity, and we have a strong tradition of welcoming those who seek refuge and supporting them to rebuild their lives and become part of our communities. Minnesota is eager to uphold that tradition by welcoming families and children and providing the stable foundation they need to rebuild their lives, achieve their highest potential, and contribute to our state. You may already be aware that in the past Minnesota has stepped forward to help those who are fleeing desperate situations and need a safe place to call home. New Minnesotans strengthen our communities and contribute to the social fabric of our state. They are our neighbors. We stand ready to work with you and your administration to welcome families as this effort to provide safety and refuge continues. Sincerely, Tim Walz Governor Peggy Flanagan Lt. Governor Mark Dayton October 14, 2015 St Cloud Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton attended a community conversation about race hosted by the St. Cloud NAACP and told people who have been questioning refugee resettlement in the central Minnesota region to “find another state.” “This is a time for everybody who is a Minnesotan, a real Minnesotan to take a stand and say, ‘not in our state.’ If you are that intolerant, that much of a racist and a bigot, then find another state, they really should go somewhere else.” said Dayton. An audience member replied, “I don’t want to be called a racist, but I do feel that I have a right to question some of the things that are going on.” He asked the Governor about who was financing the refugee resettlement in St. Cloud and Dayton replied, “The real answer to that is jobs, I think people who come here want jobs,” according to KARE 11. Another citizen asked about assimilation into central Minnesota culture, a panel member responded by asking what central Minnesota was doing to become a more inclusive society. “Minnesota is not like it was 30, 50 years ago. But, this is Minnesota and you have every right to be here. And anybody who cannot accept your right to be here and this is Minnesota should find another state.” The paper also quoted him as making a bizarre comment about the state’s citizenry, “Our economy cannot expand based on, white, B+, Minnesota-born citizens. We don’t have enough,” Dayton said. The Star Tribune reported last fall that the number of Somali refugees resettled in Minnesota more than tripled from 2010-2014. There have been tensions in the St. Cloud area including Somali student walkouts at one of the local high schools as well as a threatened assault on school staff. I'll leave it at that for now, but hopefully this gives you an idea of why so many end up in Minnesota. I also take this opportunity to copy something that Fnord stated in a recent post. “MN has one of the best social safety nets in the country. I have heard reports that that figures into why the Somalis came here, and also why there was a huge Hmong influx in the 70s and 80s after Vietnam” That says a lot, & explains why they chose Minnesota instead of a friendlier weather climate state. I'll touch on this again at a later date when I discuss the following. A substantial percentage of Minnesotans wanted more disclosure regarding the fiscal impact of being forced to absorb such a disproportionate percentage of refugees. Enough people voiced concerns that in early 2017, the State of Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor was directed to examine the extent to which data are (or are not) available to analyze the fiscal impact of refugee resettlement. The study was released the following April & explains a lot. I'll post this at a later date. One more thing: Here's one more juicy little tidbit which helps to explain why this has become the Mecca for so many refugees/imports/immigrants/ & also illegal immigrants. In 2023, Minnesota enacted laws allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain driver's licenses & expanded eligibility for MinnesotaCare, a state health coverage program, to undocumented individuals. I'd be interested to hear from those who live in other states to see if they've enacted similar laws ? To Be Continued Quote
easilyscan Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 Federal agents were assisted in Minnesota by police departments from Montevideo, Rochester, Austin and the Mower County Sheriff's Office "These are the worst of the worst offenders," said Scott Baniecke, field office director for ICE's Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations in Minnesota. More than 56 percent of those arrested in the Midwest had prior convictions for serious or violent crimes, such as armed robbery, drug trafficking, child abuse, sexual crimes against minors, aggravated assault, theft and forgery In addition, 51 of those arrested in the Midwest were classified as immigration fugitives who have outstanding orders of deportation and have failed to leave the country. Of those arrested by the St. Paul Field Division, eight are being prosecuted by U.S. Attorneys' Offices for illegally re-entering the United States after a previous deportation. This happened in August 2010 when Barack Hussein Obama was president. HellToupee Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Finally some cooperation from MN Quote Tom Homan just revealed Minnesota counties are LETTING ICE INTO THE JAILS to arrest illegals, "unprecedented" cooperation is now happening They caved. Illegals are being arrested instead of being released into Minnesota. This is HUGE, Tom Homan did it! "We currently have an unprecedented number of counties communicating with us now and allowing ICE to take custody of illegal aliens before they hit the streets!" "Unprecedented cooperation. Now say it again, this is efficient, requires only one or two officers to assume custody of a criminal alien target rather than eight or ten officers going into the community and arresting that public safety threat." "This frees up more officers to arrest or remove criminal aliens. More officers taking custody of criminal aliens directly from the jails means less officers on the street doing criminal operations." "This is smart law enforcement, not less law enforcement. It's safer for the community, safer for the officers, and safer for the alien. This coordination also makes it far more safe for the Twin Cities." 1 Quote
Ron_Artest Posted February 4 Posted February 4 The Trump administration will draw down 700 law enforcement officers from Minnesota on Wednesday, border czar Tom Homan said. Taco Wednesday Quote

Note the word “counties” in the post, not state level. I don’t think they are known yet, but this is progress. I’m sure Hennepin won’t, and that will be the bargaining chip that allows Waltz to save face that he didn’t cave to Homan. Quote
