- A February 2025 advisory opinion from the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office concluded that local law enforcement cannot hold individuals solely on an immigration detainer if they are otherwise eligible for release, to avoid violating constitutional rights

>>>The Minnesota Department of Corrections honors all federal and local detainers, including those issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).<<

MN DOC

- Just as an aside apparently DHS publicly released a fair amount of false information about many of the people they’ve been claiming were just released into the community. The details are in that link. For the life of me I can’t understand misinforming the public, unless it’s viewed nefariously..

 - the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) adopted a policy in 2021 not to honor detainer requests or notify federal authorities of release dates

Apparently this is completely false. My understanding is that the county turns over criminals that ICE requests they hand over after their jail term is up. And my understanding is also that the SO doesn’t ask people arrested their immigration status & apparently they do that as a strategy to encourage informants & compliance. But even if that’s not true, if all of MN state prisons had roughly 300 illegal aliens last year, how many such illegals did HCSO not turn over in 2025? Aside from the fact I want my local PDs doing crime prevention & not doing Immigration agents’ jobs, I’m really curious about the supposed size of this problem per DHS or ICE.

There’s also something weird going on. How many people have we been told are illegal aliens in this country, like upwards of 30 million? And they’re largely criminal? But 8 weeks in a supposed non-cooperating state, which *they chose, a state as far from Mexico as conceivably possible (instead of oh say Texas), & per their numbers they find 3,000 altogether & they don’t give numbers on actual violent crimes? Tactics aside it’s a little odd.

  1. What is your policy on immigration matters?

HCSO is not involved in civil immigration enforcement as that is the role of the federal government. We do not work with ICE or any other agency on civil immigration enforcement. HCSO deputies will not ask someone’s immigration status. HCSO does not track immigration status.

  2. How does your jail work with ICE?

HCSO works with all agencies who have warrants signed by a judge. If ICE presents a judicially-signed warrant, HCSO will comply. HCSO does not honor administrative detainers or administrative warrants.

It definitely varies by jurisdiction, and the messaging has clearly changed based on the recent surge to try to show more cooperation.  But previous to that, the state and some local counties actively touted their resistance to ICE cooperation on retainers to show their progressive cred to the public.  My taxes in Hennepin County actually pay for the legal fees of illegal immigrants in their court cases.  Only now are they trying to show that they are cooperating in an effort to get the enforcement to stop.

Again...a victory overall to those who support greater immigration controls and enforcement.

This is exactly what I just said, thank you. I’m sure you understand that is an entirely different issue from handing over criminals that ICE ask they hand over, after their jail terms are complete.

Again, exactly. So it is inaccurate to suggest they do not cooperate or hand over people, they clearly do.

This part speaks for itself. But I want to point out one other thing.

The DMDC US Attorney’s office is so consumed with habeas corpus petitions & so rife with firings & resignations that per its own filings it has become almost completely unable to do its usual important work in fighting a whole host of the worst sorts of crimes that plague their district.

Hennepin County does not enforce immigration. But, if an illegal is convicted of a crime, they are handed over to DHS after their sentence is completed. If the immigrant is not charged with a crime, they are released, because HCSO does not track immigration status.

DHS and the Cockwomble's admin have been lying and obfuscating over these facts.

How did Minnesota get so bad? In March 2020, Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar authored a bill called the MEALS Act, which eventually became part of a larger COVID relief package. That law allowed states to waive the normal eligibility requirements for the National School Lunch Program. It eliminated income requirements and site inspections and expanded distribution methods. This opened the door for Feeding Our Future, which became the largest COVID fraud scandal in state and national history, stealing at least $250 million from taxpayers. To date, there have been 78 indictments and 61 convictions, with more cases headed to trial this spring.

I don’t think @Meglamaniac would appreciate you falsely calling people liars.

Minnesota meth ring: Man with Sinaloa Cartel ties convicted of drug trafficking

Eric Anthony Rodriguez, age 47, was found guilty in U.S. District Court of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, and possession with intent to distribute.

Authorities say that Rodriguez is the fifth person convicted in connection to the Diaz-Aguilar Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO), led by Erick Emilio Diaz-Aguilar.

A coordinated traffic stop in November 2025 led to the seizure of three pounds of methamphetamine from Rodriguez after search warrants conducted in Columbia Heights, Hastings and Rochester.

In total, law enforcement has seized roughly 60 pounds of methamphetamine, 1,500 fentanyl pills and more than $20,000 in cash as part of their investigation.

Maybe if you actually contributed to regular discussion and didn’t just reply to tags you wouldn’t be so angry all the time.

You certainly seemed angry in your deranged tirade to RealTim that caused your timeout.
