Many years before I started this thread, when you could still relate your feelings on newspaper sites like the Minneapolis Star Tribune, The St Paul Pioneer Press dispatch etc. I'd state that Minnesota nice, needs to be replaced with Minnesota gullible.

I was referring to our state ending up with such a ridiculously disproportionate # of Somali people that were brought to the US. Same story with Hmong.

This guy summarizes it better than I ever could.

The problem here is related to our political leaders, & it is systemic to Minnesota. let’s call it….Minnesota TOO nice, … an overwhelming attitude based on helping others, which fails to be skeptical enough to realize the potential for abuse.

The problem is our niceness gets in the way of providing efficient social services and can even backfire to that end, because of the dollars lost to fraud when this goes unchecked along with a tendency to over qualify/over estimate some of the needs for the services, as well as under-managing an exit plan/off ramp from some social services.

The latter helps explain the political equation David speaks of , as adopting the attitude of nice and welcoming does help politicians get elected, especially in a state where we pride ourselves on being nice! And who does not want to be nice? But beware that “TOO nice” IMO is the systemic problem that is causing so many failures in the Minnesota system.

Heard a quote on the radio yesterday from reporter Max Nesterak on X that nicely sums up MN and national politics today:

State of the political parties: Minnesota Republicans held a moment of silence for Derek Chauvin at their endorsement convention while Democrats confiscated glow sticks because of the potential risk to a small subset of epileptics

Both parties are psycho.

Posted this story a couple weeks ago. A good man lost his life because 3 mongrels decided to steal his car.

Scumbag woman from Philadelphia suspected of committing fraud in Minnesota to the tune of 5.3 million.

Despite the millions of dollars allegedly stolen, Hodges herself is pleading poverty. KARE-11’s A.J. Lagoe reports that Hodges is asking the federal government to pay the costs for her travel between Philadelphia and Minneapolis so that she can face justice. Amazingly, the court said “yes.” Hodges appeared yesterday via an all-expenses-paid trip financed by you, the federal taxpayer. Where did the $5 million go?

Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 31.
