Now the pressure for a thirty yr old wr  to show that he is worthy of this new contract.

Not blaming the player. I'm blaming the owners. For reference, Christian Kirk makes roughly the same amount as Barkley. That's a crime.

hes been likely the most overpaid WR in the NFL over the last few years.   dont get me wrong, hes a decent player, but not worth the money hes been thrown at him(which is very significant)

UP to 96mil... more likely around 50mil in guarantees and the last year is voidable w no guarantees

No doubt.  Same thought crossed my mind after I got over the initial shock and awe from the misconception that Budda Baker was somehow McClaurin's agent.

Not sure why Washington signed the extension.  Most teams at least try to feature a player after a big extension like that (even when the holdout ends the day before gameday).  Is McLaurin just going to be an expensive decoy?

Terry will get his, JD missed him on a bomb which would have made his stat line much better.  ... but he is definitely a regression candidate.

Reality is that there are a lot more mouth to feed now, and Kingsbury wants to feature his new toy Debo and Bill looks solid. Terry will still have his 25pt weeks and will finish with +/- 950yds and 8-11tds but he will also sprinkle in more 5pt games as well (those are going to hurt)

I think this belongs in the "Week 1 Overreaction" thread.

Debo Is going to get more and more looks.  I always viewed Mclaurin has a ff wr2, I think that’s what he is.

... and now that he is out for a few weeks at least due to his hold out and being on the older side... thats why he was a DND for me. Sucks for Wash.. but good if you're Debo owner (which i am )

Deebo is also injury prone.   it seems like he misses  a couple games every year.

granted its usually  only a couple.  so maybe a bit less risky as far as players prone to injury

Doesn’t always happen, but seems like often times when a player sits for contract issues, he has a tough season battling injuries.

Saw this blurb:

Commanders offensive coordinator David Blough said the Washington offense will be “built around” getting Terry McLaurin 10 targets a game.

May just be coach-speak, but seems like Washington may finally try to get some return on their investment.

I don’t know if that’s coach speak or not, but watch them draft a wr.

Finished Wr 34 ppg.  Currently ranked Wr 24 and probably higher by August.

That coach speak is gonna get McLaurin over-drafted again.

I don’t know, I could definitely see low end WR1 - high end WR2 out of scary Terry next year if he and Daniels are healthy.  I’d take him as a WR2 with upside if he stays at this price.  A repeat of 2024 or better isn’t out of the question.

That would be Wr 10 to 15 range.

McLaruin had his best fantasy year in '24 finishing Wr 7 overall (wr 16 ppg) mainly due to an insane 13 Tds, far exceeding his previous best of 7.  Let's say he finishes with similar stats, but a more realistic 7 Tds.... that's about Wr 17 overall.  And that's assuming he doesn't miss games ... unlike last year where he missed several due to ankle and quad strains.  Not to mention assuming Daniels stays healthy. McLaurin is about to turn 31.

Your projection seems optimistic. :ninja:

He’s a low wr2, who I would like to be able to draft in the wr3 range.

With McLaurin, I'm still trying to figure out if he is a WR1 talent who has mostly been victimized by scheme and poor QB play or if he is really just a WR2 talent.  Even in the '24 season (really his only season with above average QB play), he would often disappear for long periods and usually hovered around 6 targets or less per game.  But when they turned to him in crunch time, he usually came through with the big play needed (as 13 TDs would imply).  He could be a league winner if the coaching staff really attempts to scheme him a consistent 10 targets per game, but that probably won't work out too well if he is really only a WR2-level talent.

McLaurin held out the start of training camp last year trying to parlay that big '24 season into a monster payday (probably the last of his career). It worked - the Redskins gave him a 3-year $96 mil contract making him a top 10 paid Wr

Last year his stats over a full season projected to.... 65 rec, 989 yds, 5 Tds.  Barely played with Daniels, but wonder if the Skins are having second thoughts about that contract. Now he's 31 yo, a year removed from his one (and only) great season, and already got paid a ginormous contract.  And fantasy wise, we still don't know if Daniels is the real deal. He threw 25 Tds as a rook (with an unsustainable half going to Terry).  So how many Tds are we projecting this year?  Who knows, but I see a whole lot of red flags around McLaurin at that adp.

Maybe the Redskins will be the team that picks up T Hill. Or, not.
