that's ok, I'm just trying to comprehend your point and not sure I'm understanding.  I think you also have to remember Missouri was a slave state, so when the state was in its infancy not many people of color settled here and I think that influences our demographics (probably whiter than a lot of other states).

I'm mostly responding to claims that the new gerrymandering craze isn't preventing people from voting. That of course is technically true. But it is still a tool for voter suppression, illustrated with the fact that there are no black Republicans in the house that represent majority black districts.

My overarching point is that gerrymandering is wrong, regardless of which party is engaged in it. And the current actions being taken by boff sidez!! are just going to make the partisan rancor nastier.

don't you think that has to do with the fact that blacks more often vote for democrats than republicans?

Of course. That's the whole point of dividing the districts: to prevent (or at least decrease the chances of) black democrats from electing one.

I mean, more white people are voting for Cleaver than black people, if you look at the population demographics

I also don't know that it's a guarantee that just because you redistrict his district, Cleaver automatically loses.  Especially if they end up with 2 sitting congressional members in a race against each other (Alford & Cleaver)

But that only matters if there are actually more black people than white in his district, at least as it pertains to this topic.

If they're both Republicans, they're both safe, I would think. The GOP will figure it out.
