Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin died this weekend, his family confirmed Sunday afternoon.

He was 36. Martin's family said in a statement via Fox Sports’ Greg Auman that he died Saturday morning.

“It is with great sadness to inform you all that Doug Martin passed away Saturday morning,” his family said. “Cause of death is currently unconfirmed. Please respect our privacy at this time.”

According to The Mercury News, Martin died at a hospital in Oakland police custody. He was contacted by Oakland police early Saturday morning after they were responding to reports of a home break-in. Police who responded to the report of the break-in received notice that the suspected burglar was having "a medical emergency," and said the person became unresponsive after being taken into custody following a "brief struggle."

 

Of course it was the police that killed him. Nothing he may have had in system or anything else.
