Odell Beckham explains why it is unreasonable to expect a $100M contract last a lifetime

Recommended Posts

Hed be straight if he never earned another dollar, but you see on a 5 year $100M contract, you get taxed $8M a year and then you have to spend $4M a year buying cars, houses and flaunting it, so it's really only $8M a year, and people think it's easy to make that last a life time.

If you haven't been there you don't understand.

The reality is, yes it is laughable because there are plenty of NFL players who get smaller contracts and are set for life after their rookie deals because they smartly manage their money and still live pretty sweet lifestyles.... but I also don't have an issue with the guys who flaunt it, overspend and waste it away. they do put their bodies on the line and I think have every right to enjoy whatever lifestyle they want for as long as they can make it last. Just have to prepare to live with the consequences afterwards. Football players go into a different category for me than baseball/basketball/etc. careers are short, injuries are sometimes lifelong

By that logic, coal miners and oilfield roughnecks should make more than major league baseball players.

To his credit, he said he'd be straight with what he has so he overcame the odds and made it off the streets with only $60M after taxes

yeah, they probably should.  if that's the discussion we are having, there are many many professions that deserve to make more than professional athletes.  I'm just looking at the topic in terms of accepting what they do make and considering them entertainers. Coal miners should probably make more than Taylor Swift as well :dunno:
