peenie Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I had to look up who was considered punk rock: I liked The Clash, The Ramones and Blink 182. Apparently the Dead Kennedys have some interesting lyrics: Is my big enough Is my brain small enough The sun beams down on a brand new day No more welfare tax to pay Unsightly slums gone up in flashing light Jobless millions whisked away At last we have more room to play All systems go to kill the poor tonight Gonna kill, kill, kill, kill, kill the poor Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill the poor Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill the poor tonight Quote

The Elevator Killer Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I respect what Punk did. It was the Disco era and the producers had taken over. They didn't need artist any longer. Take the theme to I Love Lucy and add a back beat. Punk artist took back the music and gave it back to the artist. Anyone that helped shut down disco are heroes in my book. Quote

Check out California Uber Alles or Holiday In Cambodia for further examples. Most of this was in response to Reagan and Thatcher and their conservative philosophies and economic policies. As far as DK goes, I was never a huge fan of the music, though they have their moments. Their lyrics can be pretty funny, and the name Dead Kennedys is probably the most punk band name ever. But Jello Biafra's voice can be grating, and some of his bay area political zeal is decidedly over the top. That's already more politics than I wanted to discuss in this thread. Quote

Punk is the antithesis of Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Skynyrd, the Eagles and some of the other giant artists of the era that were high on their own supply. At heart it's dirty, raw, underproduced, angry and loud. Moshing>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>dancing Quote
