FrancieFootball Posted February 5 Posted February 5 https://www.forbes.com/sites/mikestunson/2026/02/05/us-jobs-disappear-at-fastest-january-pace-since-great-recession/ Quote The 108,435 job cuts last month represented a 118% jump from the same period last year and the most in any January since 2009, when the U.S. was reeling from the Great Recession triggered by a housing market crisis, consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas said in its latest monthly report. Quote It suggests most of the January layoffs were set in motion in 2025, “signaling employers are less-than-optimistic about the outlook for 2026,” according to Andy Challenger, workplace expert and chief revenue officer for Challenger, Gray & Christmas. FrancieFootball Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 Just now, Hardcore troubadour said: Illegals losing their jobs is ok with me. Actually, the opposite would be true. The jobs illegals held wouldn't have been reported. If an illegal were removed and the job filled with a legal, that would be reported, thus resulting in job growth. But statistics are about job cuts, regardless of whether the person in that job was illegal or legal. Thanks for playing, peaches. Always fun to prove you wrong. Quote

Well, I wouldn’t exactly say our board liberals are gonna get on here and feel bad about one job’s report. So yes I would say they’re fairly happy with it. Their metric is if it’s bad for Trump it makes them happy. you don’t see them start any threads about all the other months that were great, GDP reports, stock market markets, thriving. Quote

Ha well, I’m not the one who said it so I didn’t fill in that box for you. But it’s an interesting take. So we either have so many illegals here that if they get deported, it affects our jobs reports that much. Or there’s so many that are working and not reporting which means they’re not paying taxes which means they are freeloading to some extent. Feel free to take your pick Quote

Feel free to take your pick It's really not relevant to the story, which is about jobs that were cut. I included an explanation of why in my first post. The market last I looked had dropped 600 points today. These kinds of things tend to erode into consumer confidence and lead to recessions, stock market drops, declining home sales, etc. Quote

That’s the part I don’t get. You ignore the clearly obvious trajectory. It’s been on and you’re focused on one stupid day? OK well come back when it comes back up in the next couple days OK? Quote
