No need to explain.  When you said yesterday Western Civilization is a synonym for white supremacy, it made me know they couldn't name a candidate you wouldn't vote for.  I just find it interesting you are supportive of a Nazi.

I'm not being personal with this as I honestly feel you don't see it.  But to me this so much reminds me of a friend of mine who has a spot in her heart for rescue dogs.  Specifically pit bulls.  The ones that nobody will adopt, and she has a heart of gold.  She's been mauled at least 3 times, hospitalized twice, had multiple surgeries on her forearm where so much tissue was taken off her body, yet she still loves them.  She makes excuses about what set them off, what in the environment she could have done better to not have the behavior issues.  I love dogs, have an 85 lb rescue beside me now, but I know better than to have a dog like that.  The point being, when you get into bed with Nazis and Hamas supporters, don't be surprised one day when the pack turns on you.  It's not if, it's just when.

Tim said that yesterday did he? That's massively disappointing since he's frequently the most sensible left wing poster around here. It just shows you how deeply this sentiment has made inroads into the left in this country. I'll go look for it myself to get the context right.

His preference towards a far left lunatic over Susan Collins is understandable.  I respected Joe Manchin as a person and for his role is saving the filibuster, but he was also a vehicle to slide Biden appointments into office, which made me glad he was replaced with a Republican. The GOP Senate is respecting the filibuster, and Dems are taking full advantage, but they were two votes away from scrapping it the last time they held the Senate and both of those votes are now gone.

I need to correct a couple of points here:

1. When I wrote that western civilization has become a synonym for white supremacy I was specifically referring to how the phrase is being used to oppose immigration from African and Muslim countries with the implicit myth that white immigrants from Europe somehow carried the roots of the Enlightenment with them; that wasn’t so. Obviously I revere the Enlightenment, individualism and freedom and the values of western culture. I thought that would be clear by my post, guess not.

2. If I truly believed that Platner was a Nazi then of course I wouldn’t support him. I don’t believe he is. I think he is too leftist for me in normal times but these are not normal times.

You are such an idiot. Go get some help or something.

They should have gotten rid of this guy months ago. Then again, Maine is the whitest state in the US…

He’s not a Nazi.  I challenge anyone to watch this and tell me they genuinely think he is a Nazi.  About the tattoo specifically he said he had to do 2 screenings for “gang and hate tattoos” for the military and was never questioned about it.  He also has extended family that is Jewish and he was shirtless around them and they never said anything about it.

With the money he is burning through could he not have the tat overwritten with a Moose, the State animal of Maine?

He did have it removed.

Why did he have it covered up? His Jewish relatives weren’t offended.

Because he was made aware that other people were.  You shouldn’t be implying people are Nazis you antisemite

Personally I don't care if he has a vestigial tail or a partially absorbed conjoined twin, though if he does I would like to see.

It cracks me up there might be maga voters in Maine who might think it’s a beta move collapsing to cancel culture to change the tattoo. Isn’t it a cartoon animal now or something?

This dude is going to slaughter Susan Collins.

Yep. The good folks of Maine are just a little more concerned about rising prices and the loss of affordable health care than they are about tattoos. They want somebody to actually stand up and say no to Trump, instead of constantly saying “I’m very concerned” and then voting with him anyhow.

There is no corner of the world nor any people about whom Tim does not have his finger on their pulse.  He is tied in to any demographic to come up in discussion.  He may be the world's most connected man.  It is practically a superpower.

Or I pay attention to polling and what I read.

But actually I prefer your explanation.

Guy is smart to be an oyester farmer.  Way easier than cattle ranching.  You don't need to have swimming horses to round them up and you don't need to spend effort branding those rascals.

But answer there came none, and this was scarcely odd because they’d eaten every one.

It’s a pass for me on oysters from the Plains states.

I’m all for 2nd chances, but it’s definitely worrisome.

Thank you. His whole shuffling around it is odd.

What do you mean shuffling around?  He’s been consistent that he didn’t know what it was until a couple months ago or whenever it was that it went viral.

I don’t think he has been consistent. Have you seen it? It doesn’t seem very realistic to say in 18 years he never learned a thing about the SS or that no one pointed it out to him. Then he’s also defended it as something certain military corps do, which suggests he did know what it meant. Maybe it was his loyalty to his old group that led him to keep it. And like I said I don’t know anything else about the guy. I did see an old post-service interview with him at college & he seemed like an earnest guy with zero fascist vibes about him.

What was something certain military corps do?  Get that particular tattoo? I haven’t seen that reported.  I wouldn’t have known what it was without the stories.  And it’s pretty much just a skull and crossbones from what I can tell, there’s not really anything unique about it that would distinguish it as a Nazi symbol IMO.  Here’s an article from when it came out and his story has been the same from what I’ve seen - him and a few other military guys were drinking and got it because it was a skull and crossbones.

Right. Btw I’m just learning of all this from this thread. This is the article I posted earlier.

I remember that time I accidentally got a Nazi tattoo.

It could happen, seriously, if you were young & very drunk & stupid & buffaloed into it. That’s not the problem. The problem is keeping it for 18 years.

He addressed most of that in the video I posted.  He denies it and said the anonymous “acquaintance” claimed to know him from particular years working at a bar but those weren’t the years he worked there.  And he said the “political director” only worked on his campaign for about a month.

He doesn't always drink beer, but when he does, he prefers Dos Equis.

Or Bartles and James
