I discovered Dio, before hearing him in Rainbow he was just a character to me. I’ve been going down a rabbit hole of stuff I never listened to as a kid/teen. This is SHOCKING to me. Like what the hell else have you never listened to? I'm far from a Rainbow superfan, but I've known who they are FOREVER. Great choice, though! Quote

Led Zep was easily my most hated band growing up, now I don’t mind some of their stuff, same with Van Halen Quote
Showboat Posted March 6 Posted March 6 At the quarter point, I’m liking the lineup from Biff or the General the best. 5-points and Toupee are just a bit behind for me. BHB had a strong start but lost me in the 3rd round. I also liked Voltaire’s start but AC/DC and GnR just never did it for me. Surprised that no one has selected the first video played on MTV in the first 4 rounds. Quote

It's not crazy on its face to have never heard of Rainbow if you've been listening to rap, country, or pop your whole life. I do know a bit about @HellToupee's tastes though. He listens to a wide variety of stuff, some of it fairly obscure, and I greatly respect that. Which is why I'm completely gobsmacked. Quote
Gepetto Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I listen to rock, 80s, classic alternative, heavy metal. I mostly focus on specific albums I have and specific songs and just listen over and over again. Quote
Gepetto Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I have heard songs from Rainbow, just didn't know that was who sang those songs or the name Rainbow was a band. Quote

Spotify has ruined me. I have hundreds of newish songs I listen to and enjoy but because of the format there is little incentive to know the names of the songs/artists. And forget about listening to an entire album. It's so convenient and yet sometimes I miss the days of endless cassette rew/ff or physically acting as a dj and swapping out discs at a party. One of the biggest mistakes I've ever made was letting my ex wife convince me to digitize all my cds and then get rid of them. Quote

Fumbleweed Posted March 7 Posted March 7 The summer of 1988 was tumultuous for me. It was spent in Nashua, NH and it was a pivotal time…perhaps as pivotal as any summer in my life. This song by an artist from nearby was a song that spoke to where I was and what I was going through. Easy choice for me. 5.03- Fast Car- Tracy Chapman Quote
thegeneral Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I got my first real six-string Bought it at the Five and Dime Played it 'til my fingers bled Was the summer of '69 So overplayed but I love this song. 2 Quote

Fnord Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Sorry about the delay. Despite how much 80s I've heard over the decades this song escaped me completely until a few years ago. Video is great, one long trackingshot Tommy Shaw Girls With Guns Quote
jerryskids Posted March 7 Posted March 7 In 89 or 90 I saw my first concert in the Phoenix area in a group that included my future wife -- David Byrne. I didn't know what to expect, but he did a lot of Talking Heads stuff. It was at a small outdoor amphitheater and was a super fun dance party. I've decided to mix in some dance/party songs from my HS and college days in the 80s. Also the lyrics of this song were very relevant to my career/family growth. I grew up the son of a shoe foreman, and one day found myself behind the wheel of a large automobile, with a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife, and...
