PSULions Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Any surprises, get sniped by someone or a player you wanted badly? Good picks, any reaches, wanted to have a little fun discussion as we make our picks! Quote
Torn Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I have been so bogged down at work and home that I have had VERY little time to do research for the season. One thing that has really jumped out at me as we're now into the actual draft is recognizing how good we collectively are at mining keepers. The consensus top 100 has been incredibly picked over before the draft even started: Skenes, Skubal, De La Cruz, Raleigh, Kurtz, Caminero, Chourio, Marte, C Sanchez, Rooker, Woo, deGrom, Merrill, R Anthony, Neto, Ohtani (SP), J Wood, Langford, Webb, Buxton, J Pena, Springer, E Perez, Bellinger, Abrams, M Miller, C Smith, Luzardo, M Garcia, Arozarena, Soderstrom, J Naylor and I'm probably missing a couple of more... All of these guys off the board before we even started! That's 1/3 of the consensus top 100 - holy crap. Man - it's going to be slim pickings out there after about 10 rounds. On the other hand, a potentially good year for mining FUTURE keepers since we'll all be looking for those "diamonds in the rough", sleepers, prospects, injury stashes, etc. sooner than usual during the draft. 1 Quote
posty Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I initially liked it, but I think I would much rather have the slate wiped clean and start over every year... Quote
kysar_soze Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Looking to trade up. Early 4th round, I have 5.04 that plus what - gets me up to early 4. Targeting a specific player. Hit me up if you're interested. -Alex Quote
kysar_soze Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Btw, the new guy sniped me already in 3 -> wanted Max, happy with Greene but WANTED Max there. Quote

I would have taken him if he got to me if it's any consolation ... Quote

Torn Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Was pleasantly surprised to be able to snag both Seager and Greene at the 5/6 turn. Thought I blew it by getting Seager first since Harry and Varga were both set at SS, but I survived that potential gaffe. Decent value for both if you have any faith in rankings/ADP lists. Quote
PSULions Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 Seager is a great player, grew up in nearing area and played HS ball where my son played. Stories about he and his brother launched huge bombs at the field Preston played on many times and even jacked one over the fence there too. Hope he stays healthy and since I already had one injured SS, I wasn't incline to draft a 2nd one. Greene is a great player too, but his huge amount of Ks scared me away as I always seem to lead in the negative Ks on offense, so i am making an effort to avoid some of the high strikeout guys. Not bad value in the 4th and 6th rounds, especially with alll the keepers that really push those rounds to around the 8th or 9th rounds. Quote

Torn Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Well, I guess I saw my first major surprise pick in Round 9. I was really hoping to grab JJ Wetherholt somewhere in the round 12 or 13 range. I was fully assuming he'd be there at 12 and figured I'd be taking a calculated risk if I rolled the dice to wait until round 13. Ghost surprised me by snagging him in the 9th round. Like the prospect, but round 9 was a bit "rich for my blood". Will be curious to see how he shakes out for you, Ghost... Quote
PSULions Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 I was thinking similarly to you Joe as owning him last year and hoping the Cards would call him up, but no such luck. I had been tracking him for a while and think he has all the tools to excel, but was thinking Round 13, hopefully since I don't have a pick until 13.06 thanks to my keepers and trades. I was stunned and bummed out that Mike took him one spot after I snagged Sal Stewart. Quote
PSULions Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 Can you guys check your rosters on the Tracking worksheet and on Yahoo to make sure we have everything in there correctly at this point? All trades, keepers and picks? Thanks! Quote
TalentScout Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Nice work everybody! That might be record time for the draft since I’ve joined the league. Thanks for keeping the draft moving along so smoothly. Now we get to wait 2 painful weeks for opening day! Quote
vargavpugh Posted March 11 Posted March 11 I really like my team which means I’ll see one of you in the 7th place matchup six months from now. Quote

I STILL haven't won this league and Posty's annual curse for my team has become my annual reality. F you very much... As usual, I have no idea what I just built. My biggest problem always sems to be that I'm middle of the pack in every stat and my team typically ends up there, in the middle of the pack. As I prophesized prior to the draft, the prospects and sleepers went a round or two earlier than I'd hoped and I missed out on almost all of my targets. On the bright side, I think a snagged a handful of veteran guys a few rounds past their ADP/Consensus Rank. I'm hopeful that the "experts" got their rankings right!! Also, great draft, everyone! Solid pacing and communications. Nice job, PSU and to everyone else who helped out with the "administrative tasks" along the way. Quote
Ghost96 Posted March 12 Posted March 12 I doubt that anybody is tracking such results, ...but I'll bet that was the fasted 30-player team draft we've ever done in this league. Great job everybody! And I echo Joe's comments, ...super job Dave--it HAD to be exhausting. And also hats off to those with wrangling the supporting tasks. I'm looking forward to NOT finishing 11th or 12th, ...that's my goal. Quote
