https://www.cbsnews.com/texas/news/razor-thin-polls-tighten-texas-senate-primary-paxton-cornyn-talarico-crockett/

Paxton 40%
Cornyn 36.3%
Hunt 15.5%

I predict Hunt’s numbers tomorrow end up in single digits as Republicans choose between the top two. Look for Paxton to have the edge but not enough to avoid a runoff.

Talarico 49%
Crockett 47%

Crockett had about an 8 point lead until the CBS censored interview. I still think Jasmine edges him out but it will be close.

Conventional wisdom is:

1. Cornyn beats Crockett easily.
2. Cornyn edges out Talarico.
3. Talarico beats Paxton.
4. Crockett vs Paxton- dead heat.

I didn't even realize this was tomorrow, but I'll be in DC hanging out with people well connected with Paxton people.  Should be fun watching the results come in.

Do they think he can get over the 50% threshold and avoid a runoff?

I will be voting for Talarico and hope that scumbag Paxton gets the W so Texas goes blue in November.

Not a fan, eh?

I don't know, I haven't talked to any of them about it.   Your post made me look it up and realize all of this.

I just know they'll probably be up late, watching results come in and enjoying a couple of beers as it happens so I'm going to impose myself and take full advantage of the situation

He's a scumbag. While Cornyn is a bit of a Trump bootlicker, he's always been a stand-up, decent, mild-mannered human being. Cornyn has had plenty of mud to sling in this election but has taken the high road, from what I've seen.

Quote

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has faced years of legal, personal, and political scandals, most notably being impeached by the Texas House in 2023 for allegations of bribery, abuse of office, and obstruction of justice. While acquitted by the Texas Senate, he faced long-standing securities fraud charges, a federal investigation, and a 2025 divorce filing citing adultery.

Republicans better hope that Cornyn wins, because Talarico based on polling looks like he will be the Democrat to face in November, and Talarico will kick Paxton's ass no doubt.

Seeing how things went for Harris in 2024, I don't think Jasmine Crockett, while a solid candidate, would win in November, although there is plenty of time for Trump and the Republicans to keep shooting off their feet one toe at a time between now and then.

The contest between Talarico and Crockett is representative of the basic question facing Democrats: do they win by energizing the base (Crockett)? Or by attracting independents and some conservatives disenchanted with Trump (Talarico)? Much as I like Crockett I think it’s the latter.

I agree. If the moderate (comparatively) Beto O'Rourke couldn't win in Texas, I can't see how Crockett can.

Talarico would have a chance, would probably still lose.

Crockett would lose handily.

Crockett has zero chance of winning in Texas.

Democrats would be far better served learning that their best chance of winning is by grabbing moderate middle-of-the-road candidates. The dopey far leftist side of the party will not vote for that person but perhaps you get enough from the middle to offset that some.

The GOP is always better about rallying behind their candidate regardless of general feelings.

I didn't say I "like" them.  I think I ignore most of the posts from the users you mentioned.  And I have no idea which ones are aliases or who they were aliases of.  They certainly don't offend me the way No Integrity Tim does though.  They're basically benign so I don't care if they post or not.  But if you look at posting history I don't think you'll find me interacting with any of those people significantly.  :dunno:

I don’t agree. I think Talarico has a BETTER chance; but Crockett can win, especially if the opponent is Paxton.

I don’t people fully realize the sort of blue wave that is coming. Republicans, particularly MAGA types, have become absolutely poisonous to the general electorate. A lot of folks around here are going to be shocked how widespread this feeling is.

I don't like Peefoam either (who does?) and there wouldn't be a bunch of tranny threads if your side didn't constantly try to give them the right to abuse normal people.

I very much doubt this. Some polls would show her close for sure at points but she’d lose easily.

It’s “my sides” fault there is a thread about every trans related story that pops across one dude’s Twitter feed.

No sir!

I think you are guilty of always having the most Pollyanna view of everything. Again- a lot of the GOP may not like Paxton or Cornyn but if they are the nominee the voting will rally behind them.

If Talarico beats Crockett the idiots far left will not vote for Talarico and cost him the win. Crockett will just shut off a lot of the middle voters.

I think a firebrand like Crockett would stand more of a chance for the Senate seat. Everybody thought Trump was too extreme in 2016 and he won the primaries and the general election.

Many Democrats are sick of milquetoast. They want somebody who fights.

But I predict most white liberals in Texas won’t vote for her in the primary because of “electability.” Then they will watch Talarico lose in the general election.

Ive seen it happen over and over. The Dems willing to kick a$$ and take names cause white libs to clutch their pearls and then they look for the most boring inoffensive candidate possible. And then wonder why turnout is so low in the general election… 🤔

The idea of a blue tie winning Texas would be a bigger draw than getting moderates to vote for Crockett IMO

Has Bill Pulte sent over the criminal referral for Paxton’s mortgage fraud yet?

This is a compelling argument. A shet talking broad winning a statewide race in Texas. I’m not seeing it. She would lose votes slowly throughout the race would be my guess.

I know nothing about this Paxton guy and Tim makes a good point that many MAGA picks have flamed out bigly in the past. Not sure about Texas however even with a shifting voter trends.

Mooney has a point here.  He’s always calling out both sides. He’s a centrist.
