The cyclone part is easy as an Iowa State alum. Wore 24 in college…Younger brother and sister both played college sports as well and wore 24 so kind of fun to have in the family i guess.

What’s your about?.

Tim Hauck was my favorite Eagles player as a kid.   Basically ended Michael Irvin’s career (although that’s not why I was a fan).  But the Eagles are probably the team I root for second now and I barely watch the NFL at all.

I’m easy & I said it before here & elsewhere. I used to read the site & FFT board for fantasy football then signed up when the Saints were preparing to have their first home game back in the Dome. I was stuck in Baton Rouge back then waiting to get back home, reading sports to distract myself.

I've said many times I stay here for the irony; and irony is what birthed my moniker.

Quote

"Fnord" is a term coined in the 1965 Discordian text Principia Discordia and popularized by The Illuminatus! Trilogy to represent a subliminal word that causes fear, confusion, and anxiety in the reader, acting as a tool for mass-media disinformation and control. It symbolizes hidden, conspiratorial, or meaningless information in pop culture.

  • Origin: Coined by Kerry Thornley and Greg Hill in the Principia Discordia.
  • Meaning: In the Illuminatus! novels, people are conditioned to not see the word "fnord" consciously, but to experience feelings of unease or paranoia when encountering it, often in news or advertisements.
  • Pop Culture Usage: Often used to represent hidden, manipulative, or nonsensical information.

The word was coined as a nonsensical term with religious undertones in the Discordian parody of religious texts Principia Discordia (1965), by Kerry Thornley and Greg Hill, but was popularized by The Illuminatus! Trilogy (1975) of satirical conspiracy fiction novels, by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson.[3]

In the novel trilogy, the interjection "fnord" is given hypnotic power over the unenlightened. Under the Illuminati program, children in grade school are taught to be unable to consciously see the word "fnord". For the rest of their lives, every appearance of the word subconsciously generates a feeling of unease and confusion, preventing rational consideration of the text it appears in. The uneasiness and confusion create a perpetual low-level state of fear in the populace. The government acts on the premise that a fearful populace keeps them in power.

In the Shea/Wilson construct, fnords—occurrences of the word "fnord"—are scattered liberally in the text of newspapers and magazines, causing fear and anxiety in those following current events. However, there are no fnords in the advertisements, encouraging a consumerist society.

I remember Tim Hauck getting an invite to camp and being on the roster bubble like 4-5 years in a row. They always wanted someone better but kept going back to the well. Reed Blankenship reminds me a little of him. Probably because they’re both Caucasian.

I'm a fan of pro wrestling. When I was younger- Sean Mooney was the goofy announcer who did the "Event Center..." Always thought he was perfectly cast as a silly Greek chorus to things that had just happened.

Hmm interesting. Nice. 🍻

If you ever want to read something deranged yet perfect, check out Principia Discordia. High level religious satire. I still keep it on my bookshelf and occasionally open it up to a random page to remind me that literally everything is ridiculous.

It’s racist if one white safety reminds you of another?

Was just teasing was just teasing that one white player reminded you of another white player…

I generally don’t understand how you deal with men in general. I’m even more amazed you deal with them on a message board.

Wow, that's awesome!  I had never heard of this; I learned something new today.  It's a good day already.

Dang, I should have known this  Something has always been familiar about your handle, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

For my handle, when I started in FF I played with friends in a deep keeper league and inherited a team which sucked.  I had to come up with a team name, and since my name is Jerry, I thought of this as an interesting play on Jerry Lewis' MD telethon "Jerry's Kids", which back in the day had something of a "short bus" connotation.

Had I known it would last this long, I might have chosen something else.  I've tried to register at FBG in the past, but Joe has shot it down because he finds it offensive.  Also, those who perhaps are not familiar with it often read it as "Jerry skids," hence many people shortening it to Skids.  Oh well, we can't pick our name... well, I guess in this case you can... never mind.

Back in the way back, when the board format allowed you to change handles at will i was posting and someone was complaining about spelling and grammar so I created this handle as a sarcastic retort, when the new format came along I just used it to register to this board as it had been my handle for a year or so

Hah I can’t reply to all of them, but this has been far far more interesting than I thought it was going to be.

Some Discordian Quotes:

Quote

The Enlightened take things Lightly.

Sometimes I take humor seriously. Sometimes I take seriousness humorously. Either way it is irrelevant.

Everything in the universe relates to the number 5, one way or another, given enough ingenuity on the part of the interpreter.

A Discordian is Prohibited of Believing what he reads.

PROSECUTORS WILL BE TRANSGRESSICUTED.

IT IS MY FIRM BELIEF THAT IT IS A MISTAKE TO HOLD FIRM BELIEFS.

If organized religion is the opium of the masses, then disorganized religion is the marijuana of the lunatic fringe.

Ⓚ ALL RITES REVERSED - Reprint what you like

One day, I came upon a man urinating in a bus station. When I confronted him about his action, he turned to me, without stopping, and said:

"Keep in mind that the universe is in constant flux, nothing that occurs one moment has any relevance to anything else. Everything you believe, feel, or think is based on the false assumption that truth exists. Thus, you are free to do any action which brings you pleasure. That humanity feels restricted by morals is one of the funniest jokes I've ever heard."

So I beat the shlt out of him and took his wallet.

Grew up and went to college in Bloomington during the golden era of IU basketball. Like all kids in Indiana played basketball all the time and was a huge part of my childhood.

An ode to the man, Robert Montgomery Knight.

I wore the number 13 growing up and the Giants were my favorite baseball team, Mark Davis wore that number for them at the time.  Later won the 89 Cy Young with the Padres.

An ode to the man, Robert Montgomery Knight,

I’ll give you a good Steve Alford is a jerk off story..

so when I was coaching, I would do the kids camps at different universities and did it for Tom Davis at Iowa for years. Could not have been a nicer man. Just generous with his time, helpful, etc. so Alford comes in to coach Iowa and it was pretty much the same staff so I stayed on and by this time I’m coaching in Carver with the 18-year-old best players in the whole camp kind of thing.

So this particular camp, I ran out of shirts to wear for the week. So I put one on that had a 1 inch Iowa State logo on it.

So they’re doing introductions over the speaker in Carver arena and alford is out at half court talking and he gets done and he puts the microphone behind his back and he looks over to me and he goes. Do you want your check?

I’m like what what are you talking about?

He goes do you want your check for the week? Go turn it inside out.

So I had to go wear a shirt inside out because this jerk off didn’t want a rival school logo to be in  Camp. He got after kids at the camp too for wearing different logos of teams.
