Yes, there were less political threads than there are now, but it wasn't a politics free board as you seem to suggest.

I remember Torrid Joe and myself representing the left with Recliner Pilot and a few others on the right fighting back and starting new threads on a daily basis. It was as anti-Muslim and homophobic as it is now but the racism wasn't so open and blatant.

No, not from my memory, some started to filter in around 2014 but it got progressively worse and in 2015 it got so bad I made the decision to leave and didn't post here with any frequency for almost a decade

Maybe it got worse in 2015 (though I don't remember it getting substantially worse), but they started filtering in way before 2014. Hell, I think Torridjoe was gone long before that.

I'm not suggesting they were non-existent at that time, but I'd say less than 10% of threads were political in nature, but that's JMHO

I would say the two differences between say 2006 and now are:

1)  Back then we had 10% political threads and 90% fun and serious threads and now it's the opposite - 90% political and 10% fun/serious.  And we can thank people like @edjr for trying to keep that 10% number as high as possible.  Some people around here ONLY start political threads.  If that's you, you're part of the problem.

2)  When we did have political threads back then, they could be had somewhat respectfully except TorridMuhammad.  That guy was back then what the Tim's are now.

I used to respond to threads like this with frustration and a bit of sadness. I have never understood why people whined about me so much. I don’t troll, I’m not generally rude to people unless they’re rude to me first. I try to offer my honest views on subjects I find interesting or important to me. I DO post a lot but so do several others around here, who cares? I’m mostly in the political threads and there’s plenty of non-political threads I don’t participate in. Also there’s very few people here whom I really dislike. Most of you, I wouldn’t mind be friends with you even if we strongly disagree. 

Yet I am told I am the worst poster here, on the same level as @seafoam1. I’m told that I have ruined this forum. 

Like I wrote, it used to bother me. It doesn’t any longer. The folks who think this way aren’t worth my time. They can change their tune or they can fock off. Doesn’t matter to me either way. I’m going to keep posting so long as it interests me and people want to discuss issues. I think good discussion is not only fun, it’s important. Especially now.
