For the more intelligent people than me.  Say I have $5000 invested in stocks through Morgan Stanley.  Morgan Stanley declares bankruptcy like Lehman Brothers in 2008.  Do I still own my stocks?

Yes your stocks are seperate property.  If you owned stock or bonds in Morgan Stanley, or money market funds over $100k run by Morgan Stanley you are at risk
