EAST HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) -- Critics are speaking out after New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani unveiled a plan for city-run grocery stores - a key campaign promise.

Mamdani says the store could open as soon as next year in East Harlem with the goal of additional stores in the other four boroughs by the end of his term.

Scarcity of outlets, DEI government employee laziness and arrogance, unwillingness to prosecute for shoplifing due to political concerns will doom the enterprise and it will rapidly morph into a foodbank for the borough which will prove unsustainable.  That, at any rate. is my prediction.  That aside if voters wish to try experiments in governmental service who am I to object if I am not a member of that community.  I have no dog in the fight.

I heard you but im trying to figure out what a safety net means?  What does that mean?  What specifically are we trying to accomplish with these for the people in neighborhoods they would be inserted in?

In my observation government does not create safety nets.  Safety nets catch those who are accidentally falling or falling due to failure of conditions beyond there control.  Government creats saity nests, places where the indolent can spend their lives.  Sure these act as safety nets for a few, but they ae abused by the many.
