Maximum Overkill Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Does anyone on the Planet besides those in KC care about KC anymore? Especially if Mahomes isn't playing. Quote

No, I really don't think so, to be honest. Even if Mahomes is playing. The NFL is driven by money, not the product. It's all about fantasy football and gambling. As long as there's gambling interest or fantasy talent, people will want any game, any where.... regardless of who the actual players are. Let's say there were two Monday Night games that week and opposite the Chiefs/Broncos was Ravens/Bills, the vast majority of viewership would be on the Ravens/Bills. Mahomes has no impact. There'll be more gambling and fantasy football implications from the Ravens/Bills game. Simply, if the US abolished gambling and fantasy sports, the NFL would probably be 3rd in the pecking order behind the MLB and then the NBA. The specific players don't actually matter. Quote

That's not entirely true. One, it depends on how good the teams are, when you talk about the general male fan of a sport wanting to watch a competitive game. Second goes your fanbase following. So teams like the Cowboys and Raiders are a huge draw across the country, and then cities with large population for a fanbase like the Giants and Bears, especially when any of those sorts of teams are good will draw a crowd. Winning helps the most, it's why people followed the Pats during the Brady era and Chiefs with Mahomes, and if the Chiefs get back to the playoffs you can expect the hype to carry on. Quote

Well, obviously it matters how good the teams are, lol... that's why they're on prime time. There's only 1 game, so yeah, people are going to watch. Even the 4 o'clock games. They're still the only team on, nationally, for like 75% of the country. When they're on at 1, with 7 other games, people aren't tuning in to watch the Chiefs instead of their team, just because of Mahomes. People aren't tuning in to watch the Bills because of Allen. People aren't tuning in to watch the Ravens because of Jackson. Mahomes doesn't matter, just like Brady didn't, specifically. People are going to watch because of the gambling aspect. People watch RedZone, because of fantasy football. People watch the Sunday ticket because they bet on a team(s). That's the draw, not the specific players. That Monday night game, whether Mahomes plays or not, will get the same viewership. So, him playing, is irrelevant. It's 100% about the (gambling), money. Last years' Super Bowl had the second highest ratings in NFL history... Sam Darnold was one of the QB's. LOL, Drake Maye was the other. No one cares about specific players. Quote
