I'm sure there are SOME voters on the left who vote with actual values, but the majority from what I see just want to virtue signal, push Communism and hate Jews.

The right has a bigger problem with actual antisemitism than the left.

But from where I sit, his info sources are hot garbage and rank propaganda. But he's still a good dude, like SID6.

We collectively get way too heated about politics here. You and I are polar political opposites but we'd still have a great time hanging out pounding beers and listening to music. Politics ain't everything man.

I am more convinced than ever that the Democratic candidate in Maine, whomever that turns out to be, is going to win decisively. I say this not because of anything specific about Maine politics but because I anticipate prices nationwide in November to be significantly higher than they are now, and Trump’s popularity even lower. We may be mired in a messy war with Iran much bloodier than it’s been up to this point. I think Republicans, especially those currently in office, are going to be swept out with the tide.

I was going to say that if the Maine Dems put up a houseplant to replace Platner, the plant would win, because it has the vibe of the party doing the "right" thing and wanting to reward it.  I was also going to say that those same Dems might make the mistake of thinking the Democratic Socialist wins in NYC represent a national mandate, and be in trouble.  But I won't say those because...

I think you're underestimating how many voters, voters I mostly disagree with on issues, are going to resent having their choice who won the primary be replaced by the party.  I grant you it's a bad environment for Collins, but this has gone as perfectly as it could for her.  She's been very fortunate for the self inflicted wounds by the D's in this case.

... this is an interesting point.  Maine does remind me a bit of my own great state of Arizona.  Well, formerly great, before all the Cali migrants turned us bluish purple.  The old Arizona had a fierce independent streak, and the people here wouldn't have taken kindly to having their vote taken away.

So basically, I have no idea.  It will be interesting to watch.

Obviously I could be wrong. @Strike accuses me of always predicting what I want to happen but I know that isn’t true. It may, however, be true of him.

Collins has proven a resilient candidate over the years. @Mark Davis is right about that. I just think this is one of those election cycles where incumbents are forced out.

I do think Democrats probably need to be careful here and avoid replacing Platner with anyone is is perceived as too establishment.

Some of you libs should read the following and decide if you truly believe all women as you've been saying for the last 10 years:

<<<We say we believe women. What we usually mean is that we believe women when it is cheap. We believe them when the accused is a stranger or a Republican or a man none of us liked anyway. The real test is what you do when believing her costs you something. When the man is your friend. When he was good to you. When you have the texts on your phone to prove he was never anything but kind to you.>>>

This is a good piece.

I can tell you with 100% accuracy that not a single Dem believes all women - it's just a slogan for virtual signaling.  It's just a means to grab power.  that's all.

Yeah I think that’s a fair criticism.

For me personally there were two times when I did not believe women because I didn’t want to believe them. Both of them were sports related, not political. One was Kobe Bryant’s accuser because I was a Kobe Bryant fan. The other was Ben Roesthlisberger’s accuser for the same reason. I just didn’t want to believe the worst about Kobe or Big Ben.

Liar.  You didn't believe the woman outlined in the NY Times piece about Platner.

The first time I remember this coming up politically was Anita Hill. I didn’t believe her then but I do now. The second time I remember it happening was Michelle Fields. She was a Breitbart reporter and she claimed Corey Lewandowski had roughed her up (grabbed her wrist) as she was trying to get close to ask Trump a question. Fields was completely driven out of Breitbart & the maga movement. It was surreal. That was the first time I saw how weird this whole era would be.

Ahhhhh.  All of a suddent the pube on the coke can incident comes rushing forth in my memory.  Have not thought about her in years.  Damn Thomas has been on the court a long, long time.  So long now that his pubes are undoubtedly gray.  Heck, good name for his Autobiography, Pubes of Gray.

Was “believe all women” really ever even the saying?  Using the AI, it looks like it was “believe women,” and it was critics that started calling it “believe all women.”   You shouldn’t believe ALL women, because some lie.   They should be evaluated on a case by case basis.  The most recent one against Platner looks credible, and is far more serious than anything he was accused of previously.

Maybe. I wasn’t invested in him enough as a candidate to pay close attention. I wanted a Democrat majority (still do) but that was the limit of my interest or knowledge (except that I’m troubled by the increase in populist Democratic candidates- I think I made that point early in the thread.

Republicans nominated a self-described Nazi for governor of NC, still let him run when it came out that he was a self-described Nazi, and most Republicans voted for him

I wrote that I didn’t take IT seriously. Meaning that I didn’t pay attention to the stuff coming out against Platner. @Strike accused me of not believing the woman but I didn’t ever listen to the woman. I knew vaguely about the Nazi tattoo.

Several liberal commentators were making the argument that the attacks against Platner were because he challenged the Establishment of the Democratic Party. I heard this often. I didn’t know if it was plausible. This was of course all before the last couple of days.

There wasn’t much to believe or disbelieve before the last couple days.  Fifield accused him of grabbing her arm.

Are you daft?  You didn't take it seriously because you didn't believe her.  It's that simple.  You know it, yet here you are trying to pretend there's a difference.

GTFO.

No. It’s a maga version of progressive hypersensitivity, which is a thing. Obviously believing all women - or all men - would lead to absurd consequences.

Well, umm, it seems that the NYT, that bastion of journalistic integrity, did a hack reporting job on her story to protect Platner.

This is where @Caine Mutinysays that the NYT must have just made a bunch of honest mistakes, because they would never intentionally do something like this.
