Collins beat her more than 2:1 in 2014.  I don't think it's likely the Dems will back that horse.  But, from reports I've heard she still has federal funds on hand she can spend.  None of the others do.  So I guess it's possible given the money.

In political time, 2014 was a million years ago.

I don’t know a ton about her. Maybe she has skeletons too. I just like the ACLU connection.

It was from his brother’s wedding and he said the bride was a Jew and her Jewish family was there. This was one of his explanations as to that he didn’t know what it was which seemed credible to me.

Why?  All Jews have to memorize all Nazi symbols?  See, here's the thing.  It's CREDIBLE to not know what it is if you don't have it tattooed across half your chest.  It's NOT CREDIBLE to not know what it is if you DO have it tattooed across half your chest.

OK.  Find me the Dems Collins beat by a wider margin.  Bellows was so liked it was the last time either party has carried every county in Maine.  I just think they could find someone better, but hey go for it.

ESC, relax, seriously. Of course not. I was just pointing how easily it might have escaped notice, & how rare it is among public officials. Hegseth iirc was asked about his tats in his confirmation. That’s the only other person I can recall.

Speaking of Hegseth in relation to Platner, probably worth noting that Hegseth’s mother…his mother! Literally called him “an abuser of women.”

But about Hegseth’s tattoos.  Of course @SaintsInDome2006 didn’t say they were “Nazi” tattoos, just “controversial”:

https://www.politifact.com/article/2024/nov/19/ask-politifact-did-pete-hegseths-tattoos-bar-him-f/

Hegseth has said in multiple interviewsthis year that his National Guard service orders were revoked before Biden’s inauguration because of his Jerusalem cross tattoo

The "Deus Vult" tattoo caused another National Guard member to flag him as a possible "insider threat" before the inauguration because of the phrase’s association with "supremacist groups," The Associated Press reported.

Christianity and religious history experts told PolitiFact the Jerusalem cross and the phrase "Deus Vult" are rooted in the Crusades, which were a series of religious wars between Christians and Muslims. The symbols have modern-day ties to far-right and white supremacist groups.

both the cross and the Latin phrase "Deus Vult" are popular among right-wing extremist groups, experts said. Flags bearing the crusader cross and "Deus Vult" were flown during a 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. The phrase "Deus Vult" was also on flags at the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. A gunman who killed eight people in 2023 in Allen, Texas, had swastika and "Deus Vult" tattoos.

Although the Jerusalem cross "doesn’t always necessarily connote an endorsement of the Crusades," Taylor said, far-right and neo-Nazi groups use the symbol. "‘Deus Vult’ is even more prominently embraced (by extremist groups) as a very aggressive vision of Christian conquest," he said.

When used in combination, the Jerusalem cross and "Deus Vult" are "an invocation of the claim that crusader violence and its atrocities (including the massacre of civilians) was legitimate," said Tom Hill, president and executive director of the Center for Peace Diplomacy, a nonpartisan organization working to end and prevent wars.

"It is this bloody, militant intent that comes first when seeking to understand its current usage as a symbol for those pledging their allegiances in contemporary politics — and this is why it has been appropriated by the so-called ‘alt right,’" Hill said.

I just remember that race for how one sided it turned out.  Like I said above, that election resulted in the last time any party carried every county statewide.  The environment is bad for Collins, but why they'd want to run a retread in a change environment I don't get.  I don't know much about her other than that, and in the environment she could win, but I'd think they'd want to pull someone else out for it.

It’s a crazy move to dance around with a Nazi tat in front of your Jewish in-laws. Maybe he’s insane I don’t know.

No, not only was his behavior never reported iirc from the interviews it doesn’t sound like any of them stopped dating him because of it either, including Fifield.

He's at the least a narcissist.  All political poking aside, I do fear for his wife having to live in that house with him right now.  I don't get the feeling he's stable in any way and has shown he's a danger to women.  I'm guessing his mental state isn't the best right now.

Or maybe they're like the Tim's -  JINO.  This notion that if anyone calls themself a certain religion means they actually CARE about that religion has always been interesting to me.  It's not a binary classification.

If this is all true he’s some sort of sociopath IMO.

There are some others:

- flag overlaid with a field rifle.

- 1775 in Roman numerals. I suppose this is some idea about revolution.

- Kafir, in Arabic, “Infidel.”

- Some others. Like Platner’s, who knows what else.

I did think Platner’s explanation about getting his as a rite of passage in service was interesting. That may have been the case with Hegseth. For instance I’ve read the “Infidel” tattoo was a thing in the Iraq War.

They know that one. I’m a WW2 & history nerd so I knew what it was but I have wondered if others would, but yes Jewish folks know.

Racicot said after the incident happened that caused him to drop out, that she stopped talking to him.

But you’re exactly right about Fifield, and the right doesn’t seem to understand the implication there.  And to my knowledge Fifield is the only one of his exes who have claimed he knew what the tattoo was.

Racicot was the campaign aide, right? That makes sense.  I was talking about the women in a relationship with him. And I believe Fifield too, so in that case the moment he took off his shirt in front of her why didn’t she run out the room?

Word on the street is that Platner might not drop out after all.  Plans were to do it on Monday, officially, but sounds like he might not. He has not OFFICIALLY dropped out yet.

Apparently he wants to rape one or two more staffers before he goes.  I mean, Rapists and Nasis are welcome in the Democrat Party, though, so he should be able to get this done in no time.

I'm really hoping he told people he would do it Monday just to get them off his back and then Monday he just hides through the deadline.  That would be EPIC!!!!

My apologies, he said “questionable,” not “controversial.”  Oh noes!  Have you admitted you incorrectly claimed on multiple occasions that Racicot was not named in the NYT article?

I didn’t know what it was and I bet most people including Jewish people didn’t before this story.

Racicot is the one that accused him of raping her.  I don’t recall reading anything about if she did anything for the campaign, just that she was a Democrat that agreed with a lot of his opinions.  She says they did date on and off.

This guy .  Yeah, all Jews know. They have to take a test before their Bar and Bat Mitzvah.

No problem.  It can be confusing.   For example Strike kept saying she was anonymous in the original NYT article but she was not.

Yes, including a good friend of mine who just passed away. It might be fair to say there isn’t a Jewish family in both hemispheres who weren’t touched by what happened.

Well that's good for Democrats. Gives you some extra time to nominate some other Nazi, Rapist or Pedo.  Good luck!

You spelled "screw over your constituents by taking away their ability to choose their own candidate" wrong.

Well, to be fair, that's implied now with the Democrat Party.  You don't need to say it anymore as it's already assumed.

Actually quite the opposite.  Democrats have shown intolerance to sexual assault claims where Republicans and embraced and normalized such behavior.

Where has the GOP embraced and normalized the behavior? Are we talking about Roy Moore or is this Epstein stuff or something else.

I’ll defer to Tim/Caine when he shows up.

I’m a WWII nerd as well so I don’t think I should speak for other people. Let’s put it this way: I knew more details about the Holocaust than my father did and he was in the Holocaust.

I have no idea what Platner’s tattoo said about him, but I do believe it is plausible that people can be attracted to Nazi symbols without being Nazis. I will offer the example of Siouxie (of the Banshees) who used to wear a swastika armband for shock value.
