Oh boy. That's a conversation worthy of its own thread. I don't necessarily disagree, but there's a helluva lot of nuance there.

Actually none of this is relevant. Upon learning of the Nazi tattoo, and his subsequent  explanation, I had only one question: does Platner have any record of statements or political positions that would indicate pro-Nazi leanings? (This could be white supremacy, anti-semitism, extreme nationalism, etc.)

The answer, so far as I can see, appears to be no. Therefore this doesn’t bother me.

Come on guys. He’s one of the NICE Nazi’s.

He did ask why black people don’t tip based on his personal experience as a bartender.  I’m sure the same people that say things like “Dindu nuffin,” “quick twitch to violence,” and “to black people every day is no Father’s Day” probably think that’s racist though.

So it wasn’t racist for Platner to say that, correct?

He also may have not have had the official Trademark TM of the Nazi symbol on there.  If an artist freehanded it and it wasn't the official one, it apparently isn't really a Nazi symbol.

Platner to me is not really going to be any different than if Janet Mills wins.  I believe Gov Mills is a better person than Platner, but she's going to vote pretty much the same.  So if he does win as opposed to a Democrat like Mills, there's not really any difference.  Just like Paxton will largely vote the way Cornyn would have.  So while I might not like Paxton, policywise I'd prefer him to Talarico. If it got down to Platner vs Collins and that was the argument from someone on the left, I'd understand that stance.  I'd have no problem with it, it's honest.

It's this constant playing the fool to excuse the man that I don't get.  Never mind there is still a primary here to choose another person who doesn't have a Nazi tattoo so it's not a lesser of evils thing.

I have said the same thing for Trump for about 10 years. Why that guy?

You answered the other reason why people will  vote for Platner. He’ll have the blue tie. You think anyone gets pumped to vote for Susan Collins other than she wears a red button?

Well, first off I have long said Trump personality wise isn't my favorite guy.  However, policy wise he's in line with me much more than he isn't.  Some of the harsh tones wouldn't be my choice.  I didn't vote for him in either primary and I voted for Johnson in '16.  I did vote for Trump in '20 and '24 because he was the closest to what I wanted policy wise.  If it gets to Platner v Collins and someone has that stance, that's fine.  You can pull for him, I'd understand it.

If you don't like Collins' policy votes, again fine.  But there have been some posts here attacking her which to me she's exactly the kind of Republican many Democrats seeking "normal Republicans" say that they want.  She even voted to impeach Trump.  But she's being used as a figurative devil here to justify a vote for Platner.  So again, if you are on the left and just on policy disagree with her so much that's understandable.  But Susan Collins is not some evil or bad person that I know of, certainly not on par with the Platner, Paxton, Moore variety.  For example, I disagree with Chris Coons on almost everything politically.  But I don't think the man himself is a bad person. And of the people on the "other side", he's one of the fairer people you can talk with.

That’s politics. It’s becoming more and more a binary choice. If being a bad person is important than our Prez may be one of the worst measuring sticks of all time.

This Platner dude I will have no say in but would absolutely vote for him over the red tie at the moment for many of the reasons you have laid out. This tat stuff unless there is something else is a non-issue, the shitposting i have seen also not an issue (hello look at this place 😂) Trying to hook up with skanks online is disappointing but not disqualifying for me if that was what was going on. He seems kind of dumb and has a shown potentially a bad temperament for such a public job but is confident and I get why his shtick is appealing to rural folks among others. Certainly can see why he is more appealing than Collins or Janet Mills for that matter - who would have been a good candidate too I think.

I was honestly asking if there’s a more clear image of his tattoo other than the grainy screen grab.  Your post implied there was, and yet you replied with snark and no further images.  I’ll admit I’ve done it on a couple rare occasions but generally I try not to jump to conclusions unlike most here, apparently including yourself.

I think it is a big stretch to compare Platner and Paxton. Paxton is corrupt to the core.

Absolutely. She's pro-business, wants to strengthen SS and Medicare, pro choice and pro military.

Just like some people will vote for Platner because they like free handouts, free housing, tax the rich, Lqbqtrxyz+ once they get past the Nazi tattoos and women beating.  Maybe he can just put on a keffiyeh to get away with it.

Most people vote on policy, even the ghey free hadout ones.  Most people don't wake up with red tie TDS every day like you.

First of all, I don't know that anyone thinks it's obvious it's a Nazi tattoo.  Other than the one we all know about I'm not sure I could specifically identify other Nazi insignias.  However, I'd sure as hell know what anything I put on my body represented.  No one except TDS stricken people like you believe he doesn't know what it is.  And the same girl you just mentioned also said he told her what it was.  And she mentioned that to other people once he started running for office and BEFORE it became an issue.  So there's ANOTHER person confirming he knew what it was.

The funny thing is that you say “most people vote on policy” and then spend the entire post attacking caricatures of Platner supporters instead of discussing policy.

Anyways people who oppose Collins generally look at things like her Kavanaugh vote, her judicial confirmation record, and her tendency to express grave concern about Republican and Donald’s actions while ultimately supporting them when it counts.

Agreed people vote with their interests that’s what the whole back and forth with MD and I has been about.

Collins has been in DC for decades and the poor people keep getting poorer. This Graham dude is tapping into that. I don’t think many will be swayed by his online dating but we’ll see. He has handled these attacks on his dipshit behavior ok but not great.

Women romantically linked to Platner describe ‘toxic,’ ‘unsettling’ conduct: New York Times

He threatened to rape people. He said Rape is power.

“He said this a lot: If anybody ever broke in here, I would rape them,” Fifield told The Times.

Well the article is paywalled but I’m saying it’s awfully convenient that she goes on record now, after it was public, to claim she was telling people about it previously, and no one can prove this.

TBH, if she’s claiming he abused her, considering she works for Republicans and is already a somewhat public figure, it’s a little fishy IMO that she’s just coming out with this now and not earlier in his campaign
