Some of it was dumb like brainwashing the employee (although even that worked) but a lot of it was pretty smart Quote
Engorgeous George Posted June 3 Posted June 3 I was blissfully unaware of this lego/minifigs collectable market. Sort of reminds me of my Grandma's generation's collecting Hummels. I guess value is in the eye of the beholder on things like this, and baseball cards, and beer cans. I confess I had never even heard the term minifigs before this thread. Quote

Legos have been collectibles for decades as have tons of Star Wars sh1t. There is no gimmick here. Quote

TL/DW: -Guy puts $200k worth of Legos on consignment with the store, with a contract and video evidence supporting this -Store changes ownership and new owners pretend the contract doesn’t exist (but old owner is on video acknowledging it does) -YouTuber gets involved and even the company’s CEO defends the franchise’s actions (so it can’t just be blamed on a rogue franchisee) -YouTuber hatches an absolutely insane plan trying to get the Legos back, ultimately resulting in the store permanently closing (but them not getting the Legos back) Speculation, but this could (and probably will IMO based on the number of views this story is getting) result in huge financial losses for Bricks and Minifigs nationally. So 1 guy defines Gen Z work ethic? Quote

I also like how they redacted so much of the bodycam footage to “protect the victim” but then left the cops talking about this Johnson guy’s address unredacted… Quote

Longer vid At 4:00 he says “I’m not responsible for a contract that you signed,” basically admitting to stealing the legos At one point he is on the phone with the CEO. Not only does it seem like the CEO was the one fishing for what charges could be made, Josh also says when he first took over the store he was an employee and not just a franchisee. Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted June 4 Posted June 4 I just started following this a couple days ago. What a crazy story. That CEO is a pos. Just give back the money or toys and be done with it. He's going to destroy his entire franchise for $200k. This whole thing gets makes me so frustrated because it reminds me of what I'm going through. I'm still trying to get my money from a customer from product he got two years ago. I'm actually meeting with a new lawyer this morning. Quote

I saw references in the video indicating that some of the collection was sold under the original franchise owner, and Mancel was regularly collecting monthly checks, and $200k seems to be the top end estimate for the whole collection. They could've settled this for like $80k probably. Quote

They could've settled this for like $80k probably. There was a copy of the list somewhere, some had sold but it seemed like probably less than 20% or so. But yeah if 1) $200k was a high end estimate of the retail value, 2) the store was due to make 35% of the sales anyway, and 3) they had already sold some of it; then yeah this is all over like $80k. I am curious to hear more of the situation with the previous owners of the store (they say they will tell it after the lawsuit is over). Bricks and Minifigs is claiming the old owners owe them $~200k (an oddly convenient number and which would give them motive for the theft), but of course with the amount of lying we’ve seen from them I’m guessing that’s a lie too. TimHauck Posted June 4 Author Posted June 4 Latest update. If Ben’s version is accurate and the police/feds do their jobs this CEO and Johnson dude (edit: and probably some of the cops) need to be in federal pound them in the azz prison. 1 Quote

TimHauck Posted Monday at 01:01 PM Author Posted Monday at 01:01 PM lol at 11:00 Josh Johnson: “Bricks and Minifigs is the name of the store.” Cop: “Can you spell that for me?” Johnson: “Yeah, bricks and minifigs.” Johnson then confirms he is also an employee of the corporate office (further wrecking the “independent franchise” claims, and also makes you wonder if he is still a corporate employee, as the press release stated they “parted ways with franchise owners Josh Johnson and Brandon Best”). Johnson said Ammon the CEO told Johnson “go rescue the Salem store and you can have it for the price of whatever you recover it for,” whatever the heck that means. Quote
