Been out of the horses for a long while but have many great memories at the tracks and even otbs. Quote
BeenHereBefore Posted June 3 Posted June 3 Thanks again for this and only 9 horses ? More of my liking! Quote

GobbleDog Posted June 6 Author Posted June 6 Field summary: 1. Vitruvian Man (30-1) ... finished 3rd at Santa Anita (weak class this year), first graded race. Prior to that took a 2nd and 3rd in cheapo (wet/sloppy) races. Outclassed here. 2. Powershift (12-1) ... Pletcher trained, that's good. 6th place in only graded race (gd 3), that's bad. Speedster horse and some speculate Pletcher entered him just to be a rabbit to Pletcher's big closer - Renegade. 3. Chief Wallabee (3-1) ... won maiden first try, then 2nd (gd 2), then 3rd (gd 1 Florida Derby), then 4th at Kentucky Derby... Impressive. Certainly has talent and experience, but pretty short odds for a horse that hasn't won since maiden. 4. Renegade (2-1) ... 6 starts, never worse than 3rd and that came from his first ever race. Took 2nd at Kentucky Derby despite the dreaded #1 post. Monster speed, best jockey (Irad Ortiz), and big time trainer. Much deserved favorite. 5. Ottinho (20-1) ... took 2nd at Blue Grass (only graded race), unfortunately it was 11 lengths behind the winner (Further Ado). Never faced this level of competition. 6. Growth Equity (12-1) ... 4 starts, 2 wins/2 places. Impressive. Won his last and only graded race (gd 3). Might pull the upset, but hasn't yet proven he can hang with the best-of-the-best. 7. Commandment (6-1) ... was on a 4 race winning streak (including gd 1 and 2), until Kentucky Derby where he finished 7th. It was a bumpy ride and pace was hot. Speculated trainer is switching jockeys because he felt the Derby jockey fired the engines too late. Regardless, the horse has beaten the best. 8. Emerging Market (6-1) ... the wise-guy horse. Won maiden, then won gd 2 Louisiana Derby... then 10th at Kentucky Derby without much excuse. Rather inexperienced for such low odds. 9. Golden Tempo (4-1) ... the Kentucky Derby (upset) winner. A deeeeep closer who benefited from the Derby's pace meltdown. Still has impressive record of 5 races and never worse than 3rd, which includes four graded. He's got talent. ....................................................................... Normally Belmont is the longest of the triple-crown races at 1.5 miles, but only 1.25 miles this year (10 furlongs) as the race has been moved to a different track due to renovations. The shorter length could benefit some of the lesser talented horses. Weather is cloudy with tiny chance of rain in Saratoga. I think Chief Wallabee, Renegade, and Commandment are the most accomplished / talented horses in this race. Picked Commandment in the Kentucky Derby and I'm gonna stick with him here. Impressive resume with juicy odds. Good luck everyone. Happy race day and get ready to sing: "Start spreading the news..." Quote

GobbleDog Posted June 7 Author Posted June 7 Another LAST PLACE to WIN for Golden Tempo. Great horse no doubt, but lots of credit to the jockey Jose Ortiz who timed him to fire at the perfect time once again. I'm happy with my Commandment 2nd place ... I'm a win / place / show guy so I got a little scratch. Surprised with Renegade ... Seemed his jockey fired way too early and had nothing down the stretch. He was lucky to hang on to 3rd. Quote

I do betting all year round off and on and stay out of races more than 10 and won't bet on them. 1 Quote

Get ya but Not Bloody Likely and a lottery ticket basically ? Better chances with the more horses racing. That happen in the Preakness ? When you get that many horses worth taking a chance on. Quote
