A Collin County jury found Karmelo Anthony guilty of murder in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a Frisco ISD track meet, bringing an end to a closely watched trial that drew national attention and sparked debate over self-defense, race and school safety. Anthony, now 19, had been charged in the April 2, 2025, killing of Metcalf at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco. Prosecutors argued Anthony intentionally stabbed Metcalf during an altercation between the two teenagers, while defense attorneys contended Anthony acted in self-defense. It's amazing how MAGAs hypercatastrophize the hell out of something to reinforce their racist, homophobic and transphobic paradigm. A guy on Facebook posted a meme juxtaposing a photo of radical extremists killing Christians in another country with a pic of Mamdini and notable Muslims in our country going about their daily business. My response was, "Isn't great that in America we have the constitutionally protected right to peacefully practice our religious beliefs?" He didn't like that. When it comes to people of color, trans, gays, Muslims and just about everyone who Isn't a white Christian nationalist, MAGAs catastrophize and throw the babies out with the bathwater. It's a mentally ill hate group and cult. 1 2 Quote

It was a murder than many people witnessed. The autopsy pictures of the chest wound and pierced heart stunned the jury. Also, the self-defense claim was blown up when the perp stabbed Metcalf and then ran away, so fast nobody could catch him. Why not just run away before stabbing a person in the heart? 35 years, with good behavior might only do 25 or so. That is not that long for a murder. Quote

In Minnesota Derek Chauvin got 22.5 years for murdering George Floyd which we all saw on video. This was not a premediated act and was a "heat of the moment" killing IMO, so a finding of manslaughter was probably more justified. But I can't say as I wasn't in the courtroom and didn't see the evidence that was presented to the jury. 3 Quote

The prosecution claimed his running away indicated a "guilty mindset." Yeah, that could be the case, but it could also be that he panicked and feared for life at the hands of a white mob. Anthony's defense team contended that he fled in a state of "fear and chaos" following the deadly, split-second altercation. Although he was not required to do so, Anthony should have testified on his own behalf to give the jurors his state of mind and how he perceived what has happened, before, during and after the killing. I don't know if his attorneys made that decision or he did, but it was the wrong one, as the result couldn't have been any worse. 1 Quote
