We began this mock on June 8th. I'll be updating the results every two rounds. You can sort the table headers.

- Omarion Hampton at 1.09 is the first thing that jumps out at me. 😲
- I'm leaning Gibbs over Bijan at 1.01 due to projected higher team scoring, better QB and favorable schedule.

Nabers at 4.10 is an absolute steal.  Round 3 is probably more than sufficient discount for a player with the talent level to challenge for #1 WR overall - maybe different if he was already confirmed to begin the season on PUP, but latest reports I see are that he is expected to be ready for week 1.  I see much more risk/uncertainty for the less talented R. Rice.

Agree. I've been seeing mid 3rd in most drafts which is still insane but you do have to factor in the risk. I'd really have to see who falls before smashing that button

keep in mind this is standard scoring, so you'll likely see some WRs fall more than you'd expect. I think the lack of receptions scored as well as the cleanup procedure on a significant injury accounted for the 4.10 price tag.

yeah standard scoring really devalues the WR/TE position as well as the pass catching RB's

it favours the Derek Henry types who get lots on the ground and score plenty o' TD's.

in PPR Nabers is a steal at 4.10..... sure.  I'll buy that.  but in Standard leagues, I'm not surprised at the pick but I wouldnt call it a Steal.

As you said, PPR puts more value on pass-catching RBs and WRs relative to traditional RBs.  However, even in standard scoring, more catches translates into more opportunities to gain yards.  Looking at the 4 or 5 WRs taken ahead Nabers, I'll stand by my assessment that 4.10 was a steal.  At this point in time (with only speculation about his readiness for week 1), mid-to-late third round is plenty of discount for the return-from-injury-risk for a player who would likely be a borderline first rounder if there were no health concerns.

100%.  if you catch more balls you gain more yards.

but the PPR really adds a premium to that.   The RB who makes 8 catches for 40 yards can really clean up in PPR even if hes having a poor day on the ground.

its totally different in standard leagues.

nothing good or bad about it. Just different.

it's definitely different, not good or bad, but something that has to be factored in.

For example, since I picked Rashee Rice right before Nabers was selected, obviously part of that has to do with my gut feeling on Nabers health. 5 days ago Harbaugh estimated Nabers had completed 70-80% of his rehab process.

But a closer look shows that Rice averaged 10.8 points per game last year in standard scoring after averaging 8.4 2 years prior as a rookie. No denying Nabers had a wonderful 10.8 average as a rookie, and if I was less concerned about his injury issue than Rice's own injury or probation violation, Nabers is definitely the pick... though also likely gone way before then. but their best standard scoring stretches have been identical, so Rice felt like the safer selection. If Nabers is ready for week 1 with no rust, I won't lament my choice as much as I would have in PPR

Rice hasn't exactly been the picture of perfect health on top of all of his off-field issues - I actually see Rice as the bigger risk with a lower ceiling potential.  With the information available now, I would probably have Nabers ranked ahead of 4 or 5 of the WRs selected ahead of him, but everyone having different opinions/evaluations is part of what makes FF interesting.

Cee Dee Lamb.  Still a 1st Rd WR?  Last year he was WR12 from a ppg standpoint.  Pickens is playing for a new deal.  I'm thinking he's the Dallas WR to have this year.  Yeah, I get the pre-season drama, but he's not getting a big pay day from anyone, if he doesn't show up and ball out.  The thing is, Dallas doesn't "need" him.  They still have Lamb and should be able to move the ball without Pickens.  I guess it would come down to, do you think he's stupid or just using the contract to not go to camp.  I'm going with the latter and I think he has a better season that Lamb.  Also, Lamb just finished his second consecutive season where he missed at least 2 games.

if he thinks hes gonna squeeze jerry for more cash I think hes mistaken.  hes not important enough to the offense for that.

but with another good season he can certainly earn himself another nice contract.

The Cowboys O ought to be able to support solid fantasy production from both Lamb and Pickens - both were reasonably priced in this mock.  If D's focus more attention on Pickens, Lamb could be running wild.  Pickens just needs to keep his head in the right place.  He will be in camp - if he didn't want to go to camp, he shouldn't have signed the franchise tag.  Even if he is a model citizen this season, the Cowboys could still tag him again next year (and I believe that the tag number will still be below the top of the WR market next year).  At that point, it will be interesting to see if he holds out.

agreed. I think its a situation where each makes the other more valuable in a way.

honestly the biggest risk here is a possible injury to Dak.

Hes getting to that age and it seems like every second season he gets injured of late.    if the pattern continues Dak gets hurt again this year.

that scenario ruins everyones fantasy value.

I think he's just using this as a ploy to not have to go to camp.  I don't think there's anything other than that going on.

Sure, but this is about fantasy, not money/contract.  My initial point was that I don't see Lamb as a 1st round pick.  Now, when I first looked, I thought he was pick #12, turns out he was #13.  Considering it was a wrap around pick and the order doesn't matter, it's essentially the same thing.  That said, I'd take Pickens over Lamb because, as stated, it's now 2 consecutive years where Lamb's missed multiple games.  Dallas threw the ball 600 times, I don't really see that going all that much higher.  Not really sure Lamb finishes in the top 12, so I don't see him being worth a pick that high.

If you think Pickens outscores Lamb then you simply draft a different WR at that turn and target Pickens later. (Of course Pickens didn’t make it to the end of round 3 but you get the point). I don’t think it makes much sense to actually draft Pickens ahead of Lamb based on one season. Do we think the TD split will be 9-3 again? Probably more realistic for Pickens to stay at 8 or 9 than it is for Lamb to stay at 3 (TDs coming at the expense of Ferguson, imho).

ADP suggests has Lamb going in R1 and Pickens at the end of R2.  If I want one of them, then I will take Pickens over Lamb if I'm in the back end of the 1st, because evidence shows that I'm not getting him in R3.  If I'm picking early R1, then I'll be very pleased when someone else takes Lamb, and I'll be just as pleased to take Pickens in R2.

I'm not basing it on just one season, but also on the facts that 1) Lamb has missed at least 2 games in each of the last two seasons.  It's now a pattern.  2) Players are more apt to have career years, during a contract year, as Pickens is doing.

After that, there's history.  Lamb has about 4 seasons that are within a similar range and 2 outliers... his 4 relatively projectable seasons say he's likely to be a 85 catch, 1100 yard, 5 TD guy.  I don't think there's anything wrong with that, I'm just saying that in the last 2 seasons with Klayton Adams as the OC, he's seemingly wanting to stretch the field more.  We saw last year, that Pickens is better suited for that than Lamb.  That's why I'm perfectly happy with letting someone else take Lamb and be willing to take Pickens after that.

Thats all fine. I am not exactly targeting lamb myself. Though Pickens just had a career year, did he not? Maybe he gets 1400/9 again but I have my doubts he surpasses that. Prior to last year, CeeDee finished 6, 1 and 9 in standard scoring formats, including his 15 game 2024 season.

I can see them having very similar seasons. I will lean on Lamb... for example if I am picking late round 1, he is the dallas WR I would consider. I won't fault anyone for preferring Pickens at their relative costs and I guess I wouldn't fault anyone for picking Pickens over Lamb, but that has to happen late round 1 in standard scoring.

In the Pickens territory, my preference is actually AJ Brown.

Pickens did have a career year, it was a contract year, thus proving the point.  This year is also a contract year because he's playing under the franchise tag.  He doesn't have to repeat that to be a WR1 and/or be better than Lamb.  Last year, he was WR5.  He can be an 85/1250/7 guy and still be top 10.  That's 252 points and a 40 point regression, and by last year's numbers, that would make him WR7.  I mean, it's in line with what Lamb did in 2024 (where as you noted he finished 9th in scoring).

Yes, the year he was WR1 is an outlier.  It's the only year he had more than 110 receptions.  It's the only year with more than 1400 yards.  It's the only year with double digit TD's.  More one your point about finishing 9th in 2024, is that he did that with a massive target share, because there was no one else.  We saw last year that when there was someone else, he's not getting that target share.  Now, that would go to your point of "basing it off just one year", but it's not.  It's basing it off of the NFL.  Teams with only 1 reliable receiver will give that guy 10+ targets a game.  Once you have two, that number's going to drop.

I agree w/ AJ Brown.  I'd also take Drake London as well.  Both over Lamb aslo.  It's actually why I'm taking a gamble in one league that I just joined.  Was going to start a thread on it, to see if anyone every played in a league like that.

this mock is for standard scoring so I throw receptions out the window other than to acknowledge that many times they lead to more yardage. I happen to think Lamb is the more talented of the two. We can agree to disagree if both were on the board, which one we would pick.

Like i've said, I would probably pass on Lamb at his adp in favor of players I like more, it just isn't pickens. When we get to pickens adp, I am also likely passing on him for players I like more such as Brown (and London as well). I don't envision myself with either of them on any of my redrafts this season but if anyone it would likely be Lamb.

that's just me.

Oh, I think Lamb is more talented too, we don't disagree on that, but that's not always the determining factor.  System matters.  As I stated, Adams' system is more downfield than what Schottenheimer's and Moore's was, in the past.  We see that because last year was Lamb's highest y/r total of his career.  Pickens' year was in line with the majority of his career, the 3rd time in 4 years, he's in the low to mid 15's.  This system is more beneficial towards Pickens' skill sets and because of that, there's a higher chance of yards and TD's going his way than Lamb's.  Will Lamb have more catches?  Probably, but as you said, receptions don't matter in non-PPR.

I don't disagree with your second point at all.  I would pass on Lamb too.  Pickens as well, I'm just saying that if I had to pick one, I'd take Pickens.  AJ Brown, London, & Wilson (whom I think is the steal of this draft... I can see him finishing in the top 5 at WR), I'd take all 3 of them over both of Dallas' WR's.

I am with you there.   there are a number of risks in the Dallas offense and one is actually Dak.   Who seems to get injured every second year of late.   hes at an age where this situation is likely to get worse with time.  Not better.

Lots of people make the mistake of just looking at talent.  but Talent isnt the only factor in fantasy production.   health, risk of injury, strength of team all play a role and there are players who will produce similar numbers that have a less risk attached to them.     This isnt a criticism of the player.  I like him.   what I dont like is the risks associated for fantasy purposes.

and those risks are just enough to lower him on my draft board enough that I would also take some of the players mentioned above ahead of him.

no slight.  those are also good players.  but with (in my opinion) less risk attached to them.
