Yeah, that's the idea... but I hate that extra time is always a nice round number. Shouldn't it be say 6:37 sec? And from what I've read, they never account enough extra time for all the moments of dead ball time during a game. It's always low-balled. They also have to account for dead ball time during extra time, so they keep adding unknown amounts of time. As for letting plays finish out before blowing the whistle - exactly my point... there's no time left, yet the game continues. Like I said, nobody knows exactly when the game will end. You can guess within a minute or so, but without a clock, it's unknown to everyone except the ref. Quote

You can guess within a minute or so, but without a clock, it's unknown to everyone except the ref. There’s def a lot of grace for the refs to determine the extra time. I’d say it’s similar in how it is ruled to judgement calls like charging/blocking in basketball or holding in football. Not sure why they do it this way maybe super soccer fan can but it’s not hard to follow how it is done after you watch a couple games to the end. Because the team in the lead can stall is why they allow the team behind to continue until they lose the ball or it’s clear they have no push going. It’s odd but all sports have weird nuances like this. I tried to explain baseball last night to an English dude who likes cricket and it made no sense to him and I kept just having to say that’s just how it is Quote

Ray_T Posted June 13 Posted June 13 1 hour ago, jerryskids said: USA! USA! So, we're going to win the whole thing now, right? Lets not get excited here. Paraguay isnt exactly a powerhouse of soccer. some idiot decided to post saying the game was rigged. I'm not buying it. I'd be surprised if Paraguay wins a game this world cup. Might happen vs Austrailia..... maybe. but I'd bet against that too. I dont think the USA has that strong a squad, but this outcome was pretty much what I was expecting here. There is no need to fix a game in favour of the US where the result is 99% likely to go exactly how the experts predict. I had figured the US was pretty much a Lock to go to the knockout round. for me, it was just a question of what seeding they'd get. once the knockout round comes it will be tougher sledding. if they win the group, they will get another cake matchup in the knockout round (possibly 2). if they finish 2nd or get a 3rd place wild card spot that may mean they exit early as the knockout matchups will be difficult early. Voltaire Posted June 13 Posted June 13 5 hours ago, Ray_T said: some idiot decided to post saying the game was rigged. I don't know what game they were watching. The Paraguay coach must have been bribed into leaving all his best players off the team. Really, this was a one-sided affair. The ball was in US possession on the Paraguay side of the field the entire game. The US was constantly attacking, whenever Paraguay did find themselves with the ball, it seldom made it past midfield and was back in US possession in 7-10 seconds. Paraguay had that one fluke opportunity and capitalized on it for their only goal. I don't know how good USA is compared to the top teams in the world, but I can recognize a "just happy to have qualified for the tournament team" when I see one. Paraguay is the World Cup equivalent of a 15-16 seed in the NCAA tournament. People in the know must have done a happy dance to see them in the same group as USA. 1 Quote

USA is predicted to be a 0.5-goal favorite against Australia. The USMNT beat Australia 2-1 in an October 2025 friendly, their only meeting. USA vs Australia prediction is the Australia Team Total Under 0.5 (+100). Quote

I think Balogun and most immigrants understand that, despite the bigotry and xenophobia expressed by the Trump administration and its supporters, the USA remains the greatest country on earth, especially for immigrants and refugees. The multicultural aspects of this USA soccer team is a sharp contrast to the ugly image of America that MAGA has tried to impress on the world over the last several years. Quote
