In 1994, venues like Toronto, Vancouver, Guadalajara and Monterrey were not hosting games. These venues are the lowest capacity venues in this years event, all under 53,000. Guadalajara does not host in the knockout rounds and by the round of 16, Toronto and Monterrey are gone (thats the 3 lowest capacity venues). The final 8 games of the tournament all take place in larger US stadiums and only miss out on the largest (Mexico City). I still don’t see how that could be considered “on track” which is what I was saying was wrong. If the group stage averages 65K then the remaining games combined would need to average about 79K for the total average to top 69K. Still looks like strong attendance of course and I doubt there were any significant number of people who chose not to attend because Trump. Looks like the prices might be the biggest reason for most empty seats. Quote

I like having the Mexico and Canada venues included but they represent the 4 smallest capacity stadiums with each being some 13-14,000 under the current match average. Mexico City has the largest capacity but it’s pretty on par with the largest US venues. I think there will be 23 out of 104 total games at these small venues which will probably make it hard to hit 69K. June 16th already set a record for attendance on a single World Cup day. Quote

Qatar got a tie against the swiss last week and then got beat up by Canada today. most people (myself included) might think a draw against Canada and a blotwout loss vs the Swiss would be more likely. but this is a sport where its all about the flow of the game and I think its more likely that an inferior team can upset a good team. it is one of the things that makes the sport charming. A tie for Turkey in either can not do it. Turkey must win twice. But even if Turkey does win twice, Australia can come around and still help USA win the group anyway by beating Paraguay. If all three teams, US, Turkey, and Austalia would have six points and would be 1-1 vs each other. So, in that case, the team with the biggest point differential will win and as it stands now, USA has a big lead in point differential. Quote
