Super Cubs Posted June 14 Posted June 14 What's your thoughts on Tuten short term and long term? I've seen him picking up steam on other sites. His current ranking is around RB 25. Quote

weepaws Posted June 14 Posted June 14 A rb3, probably splitting time with Rodriguez, I'll buy him at 25 Quote

JagFan Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I still believe Tuten was drafted last year by Coen to fill more of the Bucky Irving role from his 2024 offense. Like Irving, Tuten is compact and illusive. I agree Rodriquez will be used in short yardage situations, but unlike White in 2024 he’s not going to be used as a receiver limiting his time on the field to just short yardage and spelling Tuten. With Etienne gone I expect Tuten to continue climbing draft boards to the point where he becomes a big gamble. Quote

His current ranking is around RB 25. Liam Coen was able to make two below average QB's look like Top 10 QB's. His offenses produce. He was comfortable in letting Etienne go, based on what they saw last year, and allow Tuten to step into the lead role. I'm willing to trust Coen to make Tuten just as productive as Etienne. From a points per game perspective, Etienne was a high RB2, I can see Tuten doing similar. Quote

weepaws Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Looks like the Jags like some rb named Allen, and he looks like the third down rb, so if Tuten isn't going to be the short yardage, rb, that will without question be Rodriguez, and of he's not going to be on the field in the passing game, that's really going to limit is ff scoring, ET had 52 targets on the passing game helping his ff points. He'll get enough opportunities to be a mid-tier RB2. It'll be up to him to take advantage of those oppotunities. Quote

That is never a good scene. Quote

I never even had him on my wr list, proof? 1 Quote

League Champion Posted July 7 Posted July 7 The Reunion and Role in Jacksonville The duo's highly successful 2021 college campaign saw Rodriguez record 1,379 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Coach Coen actively targeted Rodriguez in free agency to inject physical, "punch you in the mouth" running to the team's offense. Coen highly values the veteran's metrics in yards after contact and rushing yards over expected, specifically looking to him to handle hard-nosed, early-down, and goal-line situations. While this sidelined him for some OTAs, Coach Coen confirmed that Rodriguez is expected to be a "full-go" for the start of training camp. He is expected to carve out a prominent role in the Jaguars' rushing attack this season. Quote

Not to mention that the Jaguars went hard after JK Dobbins BEFORE “actively” perusing this guy. That doesn’t really smell like man-love to me…smells waaay more like Coach-speak, and that they were looking for a specific type of RB for short yardage/change of pace which every team needs to be successful. Not saying you all are wrong about who the RB to have in this offense will be, just be careful. They let Etienne walk and didn’t pursue a backfill for the roll he had last year because they drafted that guy last year. Quote

Coen did think enough to sign Rodriquez to a pretty hefty contract for even an RB2. There's definitely something there. Tuten will still be the RB1, but for fantasy purposes you have to love the value on Rodriquez right now. He's definitely going to hoard TDs from Tuten, that's guaranteed. And if Tuten goes down you have a legit RB1. Quote
Mr Fantasy Posted July 8 Posted July 8 RB3 with a lot of upside due to his explosiveness and being tied to Coen. Quote
weepaws Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Yeah I will pass on Tuten in that rb2 area, and wait for C Rodriguez who's ADP right now rb4, but you bet your arse both of those rankings will change when it becomes more obvious of a 50/50 split Quote

And if Tuten goes down you have a legit RB1. well, Lets put it this way. Tuten is still fairly unproven at this point. Its prudent planning to have a reasonable option to go to if he doesnt cut it. I'm a bit surprised Rodriguez is that guy but at the end of the day, its not my call. I would have gone with someone a bit more proven than this. this leads me to think something is going on here: 3 possibilities: Tuten is the guy, they've seen enough of him all last season. They are reasonably sure hes the guy. Rodriguez has been a capable backup in the past and they are comfortable with him. This is a timeshare of sorts. possibly a committee. Though for this scenario to play out, you probably want more on your roster as you need a backup for the guy in each role of that committee. it is the largest downside of going with a committee. you usually need more bodies to cover the bases. I guess we can say that Rodriguez gets the start. I'll throw this out there as a possibility. but hes been playing at the NFL level for 3 years now Croskey-Merritt came in as a rookie and jumped ahead of him on the depth chart and then the team brought in Rachaad White and let him walk. Not exactly a huge vote of confidence from my perspective #3 is certainly possible. there is a connection there from college, so maybe there is the belief that he was being used in the wrong way in Washington. This sort of thing happens. while its uncommon, its definitely a possibility. but I will add that Tuten was drafted by Jaxonville and has spent 1 year in the system. I would suggest it is more likely they let Etienne walk so he can be the guy. I dont think you let Etienne Walk and bring in Rodriguez who was allowed to walk in favor or Rachaad White in Washington. I could be wrong. the kentucky connection adds some cloudiness to this prediction, but taking that out of the equasion it seems obvious that they brought him in to be the backup. I'm a bit surprised at the lack of depth at RB on this team though. one way or another the team must be reasonably certain about one of these two players. if they werent, someone else would have been signed. Less touches will help keep him fresh. But he also in his 30s and has a lot of miles on him. Miller could not take the job from Kamara. Neal is a backup at best. Etienne is being paid to be the guy and I think he will be. As far as Tuten I drafted him hoping he gets a chance to be the #1 Rb in Jax. He as the potential to be really good and I hope he does well, but I have not seen enough of him to know what he is capable of. The other owner is rebuilding and wanted to get younger. I'm built more to win now. I think Etienne is a more of a win now option and more of a proven commodity With all that said I've been wrong before and will be wrong again. Quote

I guess if playing the long game, Etienne will take over the backfield but I figure it will take half a year (maybe a full year) to do it. there is less risk here for sure. hes more of a known commodity. Tuten is more of a wildcard. full disclosure: I am a bit biased towards youth in keeper/dynasty formats. So I wouldnt likely have done the trade. but I see and understand why you did do the trade. its not like your logic is out to lunch. I'm just siding with my bias. value wise you likely got market value for the guy. maybe even slightly above market. so its not a bad deal that way. to be clear. Quote
