So the last time I stepped on a baseball field was 1995, I had a brief stint as a scab during the 95 strike in spring training.  I tore my rotator cuff shortly after that.  Fast forward 28 years and I get an itch to give it a shot one more time, I find a local adult league and start working out again.  I end up managing a team and building it over the next few seasons.  My first season at 48 (playing with guys 18+) I hit .170, but I didnt care, I could still play defensively, but couldnt throw very well, but I kept working out and training, the following season .350, then .410, then .385.  After 4 seasons (and 3 championships) the guys convinced me to start out own league (our league was run like dogsh1t) So I did.  Well this Spring we launched the Sandbox Baseball league of Inland Empire and gave it a shot, 10 teams great HS support with really good maintained fields.

The culmination of this story to date is that its been such a blast, I have 200 guys in my league having fun, and today I got to announce our All-Star game will be played before a Lake Elsinore (A ball SD Padres Affiliation) on August 9th, we have grown to 16 teams for our fall league and look to be at 24 by next spring.

Anyways just a little yay me (although I did it with a great support system)

That is an awesome story. I’m so impressed. On a sort of related note, my son’s 9u travel team had two daddy ball dickish coaches that quit on them in the middle of fall ball last year. Half the team split for other teams.  I stepped up and ran the winter workouts, hoping someone a bit younger would take over. One guy did but only if I stayed on as assistant. Well, we pretty much took anyone who showed up at try outs. We even paid 300 bucks for a kid to play whose parents couldn’t afford it. We have to build this team but it’s been great so far. I forgot about my passion for baseball. Our first tournament is this weekend. We’re not expecting much but that’s ok. We have great kids and mostly great parents. Play ball!

Awesome story.  Which team did you camp with during the '95 strike?
