I’ve read a fair bit on eugenics through my interest in history. A lot of it is European, specifically out of Vienna & Trieste, but in America there was Henry Ford (who was not I’m sure you’ll agree a progressive) and some common beliefs stemming from the European line of thought. There was Darwin & Malthus which also affected things going back some time. Im certainly interested in the discussion. And as I’ve said several times yes eugenics was once considered “progressive” but as you know we have been through an awful lot - as in horrific, grotesque - awful lot in the US & the west on that score & since at least the 1920s, & it has been neither part of the conservative normliberal/progressive argument since. And you have to be careful here because if you want a shortcut to eugenics you should look at racial theory in Southern racial laws roughly 1865-1950s. And those principles exist today in the very extreme right which is where eugenics lives *today as well. This discussion is way off track btw. 6-7 just raised it to defend his claim he doesn’t hold predictable maga beliefs on Covid, & he hasn’t bothered since. Quote
