supermike80 Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Thinking of checking this out tomorrow. Wife's friend is coming to town(36B I'd guess) and she's annoying as all get out. Never stops talking. I love Nolan movies and I think i can get past some of the casting choices to see this. Wife on the other hand has no desire to see this and really doesn't dig Nolan like I do. Hearing decent things. Anyone else interested? Quote

Tree of Knowledge Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Careful. I have heard of perfectly normal guys going into the movie and coming out transformed into flaming h0m0’s. It’s highly recommended that your wife and/or her friend participate in the popcorn tub on the lap maneuver to ward off ghay evil spirits. 1 Quote
Frozenbeernuts Posted July 17 Posted July 17 While it's impossible to avoid all woke weirdness and hypocrisy in movies, this one I am taking a firm stand on. I will not be watching it. The double standard of the importance of keeping non white ethnicity roles authentic while it doesn't matter with white ethnicity roles is ridiculous. Quote
Mike Honcho Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Don't understand why people are making such a big deal about this. 1 Quote

First off, it’s fiction. Secondly, there were no Scottish people (Matt Damon) in that part of the world 2,800 years ago. In fact, very few people there back then looked like white American movie stars. Finally, Ancient Greeks didn’t share the common American conceptions of black and white. https://lucas.leeds.ac.uk/article/skin-colour-in-ancient-greece/ 1 Quote

And something like that I feel must be seen in a theatre. I still love going to movies. So does the wife, but not this one, especially cause its over 3 hours long Quote

They could have gotten much closer to historically accurate by not casting an African ugly woman. 1 Quote
Strike Posted July 17 Posted July 17 If it looks decent I'll probably do what I do with most movies - wait until it's out on video, d/l it, and watch it in my home theater. I don't go to actual theaters much any more. Speaking of which, I think the Mandalorian movie is out any day now......... Quote
Frozenbeernuts Posted July 17 Posted July 17 The Trojan war went on for 10 years because of how beautiful the European Helen was. But yeah some ugly African makes total sense as a cast. 1 Quote

That’s not the face that launched 1,000 ships. Little Elliot Page aside this is a big mistake . Also not a Damon fan , great casting of Pattinson for his role. not seeing this in a theater, will wait for it to hit streaming Quote

But it's not "historically accurate" for her to have dark skin...? Quote

The ancient Greeks didn't consider themselves European. They actually came up with the term for Europe, referring to land north of Greece that they were colonizing. Quote
thegeneral Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Looking like the best movie of the year and one to see in the theater. Don’t have the 70mm IMAX near but do have some good options. Will def see but will have to wait a couple weeks. Quote

Probably because she looks nothing like the people who created it originally. Quote

Frozenbeernuts Posted July 17 Posted July 17 7 minutes ago, dogcows said: Who told you what the Ancient Greeks were thinking? a) Space Aliens b) The ethereal voices from the Egyptian Pyramids I can use things like common sense, something you severely lack, to know that a European country wouldn't imagine a very dark skinned ugly woman as the most beautiful woman on earth. 1 Quote

I think I will do the 70mm one at the main old school theater near my hood over IMAX alone….the Cinerama. Would love to see it with the theater packed this weekend but can’t make it happen for a few weeks. Quote

I do. Guy has made blockbusters that are actually good movies. He made comic book crap like Batman good. He made a movie about Oppenheimer amazing. He made whatever Interstellar is about good Guy is a stud and one of the best artists all things considered going right now. Quote
