Ray_T Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I think in LA they literally did not want him to be the #1. he started out looking like a 1 or 1A and then after week 7(might have been week they phased him out. it was rather sudden too. maybe this was injury related but I think they just didnt want him taking over the WR room there because he was a one year filler. I watched a game or two later in the year and he seemed to be getting open but not getting the ball. so I think there is something else going on there. granted. what I saw was a small sample size. maybe there is something in the larger picture I'm missing. but I never got to watch a lot of chargers games last year so that hindered me some. I mean he got some targets. like 5 per game on average. but in the first 8 games he averaged abound 9 per game (give or take) so something definitely happened to make his second half tank like it did. 1 Quote

I heard Josh Downs hit the turf hard in practice. I still ike Pierce and Downs. I think this does hurt Downs, and maybe Tyler Warren, but doesn't affect Pierce. Well we will have no way of knowing how it would go without Keenan Allen there now. Quote

I suspect, this move was done because Pierce is in worse shape than advertised. he had ankle surgery and has not seen the field yet. even if he gets on the field in time for week 1 he has missed pre season. not re established his connection with his QB and is not in game shape. so if they are expecting some time missed Keenan Allen was a great signing. Im predicting a good year. probably what he would have gotten if pierce was here and Keenan Allen not signed. maybe a shade better because Keenan Allen may take a couple of weeks to get fully in sync with the offense. hes a very good route runner. one of the best, but he still has to learn the playbook and learn the ways of his QB. so I dont think Keenan allen will be at his best until week 4 (give or take a week) He will start as the WR2 in week 1 and I'd guess will take over the #1 role by week 5 or so. though... if Downs plays exceptionally well he may hold him off. only time will tell. downs is reasonably talented so I wouldnt discount him. I'm guessing he gets 900+ yards receiving. Not sure if he hits 1000. Jones is coming off an achilles injury so there may be some issues with that to start the year as well. but I do think he has a decent season and likely posts career highs Quote

I'm not too worried about him learning the playbook. its the connection with the starting QB that takes more time to develop. for that reason I'm guessing it will take a couple of weeks for him to take full advantage. I'm loving this guy where he being drafted right now. I just missed him in one of my drafts but hoping to get him in another one. Quote

Ray_T Posted August 24 Posted August 24 well, as a guy who has played QB at a lower level, I can say that getting open is good, but if you are nowhere close to where you are supposed to be, its hard to find you as the QB. If I have a pass rush coming I look where the WR is supposed to be on the field. so when people complain that so and so was wide open, there have been times where I look at what the WR did on the route and it didnt look like the route was part of the play call (if you know what I mean) so I question if they were following the play call. and in many cases, the answer, likely is No. anyhow, thats not likely an issue with Keenan Allen. he also has a pretty good jumping ability to make contested catches, so if its a jump ball I like his chances of getting that baby.
