Coaching Changes I Like and Don't Like

I like:

• Chargers - Changing from Greg Roman to Mike McDaniel is a huge upgrade.  Greg Roman is boring and predictable.  Mike McDaniel is an autistic play calling specialist that uses a lot of motion to get his speedy players in space.  Harbaugh and McDaniel will probably clash from a personality standpoint since McDaniel is an effeminate Nancy and Harbaugh is a tough guy, but assuming they can some how get along, everyone in the Chargers offense should be better.  I especially think Ladd should return to rookie form.
• Baltimore - The Ravens brought in Declan Doyle to run the offense replacing Todd Monken.  Monken was kind of a spread guy.  Doyle is a play-action guy who came from the Sean Payton/Ben Johnson coaching tree.  This helps both Henry and Lamar Jackson, but Henry especially.  Of course Jesse Minter is now the head coach too, so to me it's pretty clear Ravens are going ball control run heavy.  I'm expecting Doyle to run a zone scheme and I know people think of Henry as a power back gap scheme guy, but they ran a bunch of zone scheme with him over the years very effectively.  This hire really fits the Ravens' personnel although my expectation is Lamar gets less designed runs.  The only thing I'm concerned about is Doyle is pretty new as a play caller.  He ran the Bears offense last year, but Ben Johnson called the plays. 
• Atlanta - Upgrading from Raheem Morris and Zac Robinson to Stefanski and Tommy Rees.  This is more of an addition by subtraction, since Zac Robinson is of the era where if you had Sean McVay in your phone, you were moved to the front of the job line, but Stefanski and Rees are the pair that turned the Cleveland run game into something productive.  To be clear I see this as a Bijan upgrade more than anything.

I don't like:

• Giants - Daboll/Kafka to Harbaugh and Matt Nagy.  Now you'd think this should be an upgrade or at least neutral right?  But I think Harbaugh is going to be all about ball control and I watched Nagy beat his head against a wall in Chicago.  I think these two are going to hate each other by week 6.  And what's worse is I don't know what to expect.  Nagy probably wants to run a spread.  This was the dude that in Chicago said something to the effect of "they didn't hire me to run the ball" and then I don't think people realized this, but as kind of an FU, he came out in a bunch of I formation one week and the Bears won that game, and you know what Nagy did?  Abandoned that sh¡t immediately.  Now what is going to happen when you have Harbaugh who's going to look at him like he's nuts every time they have a 30 second 3 and out.  Defenses got a bead on Nagy and he couldn't adjust and now he has a head coach who I think he will squabble with.  On paper, though, just from a scheme change, this should be good for Dart and not that great for Skattebo.  I just think Nagy isn't a good coach and the Harbaugh relationship will be dysfunctional.  
• Miami - I know the team quit on McDaniel and all, but Bobby Slowik as OC?  I mean obviously with Malik Willis at the helm, they're going to be run heavy, but anyone taking Dolphins players, good luck to you.  This should be the worst offense in the league, and dude's only good year as an OC was Stroud's rookie year and it's been downhill ever since.
• Detroit - So Detroit lost all-world super genius Ben Johnson last year and tried to replace him with Johnny Morton who Dan Campbell took play calling duties from half way through the year.  Morton is now gone and they replaced him with Drew Petzing.  I have no clue why Drew Petzing has an OC job.  Kyle Murray basically quit on him. And he showed no ability to shape up a Cardinals offense that should've been pretty good on paper. In fact they seem to have regressed. Now the Lions are two years removed from control freak Ben Johnson's influence and have brought in an underachiever.  I guess the only good thing is Petzing loved getting the ball in James Conner's hands.  I guess best case scenario is that even though the Cardinals were investing heavily in the offensive side of the ball, perhaps they weren't good enough on the talent evaluation side and Petzing had his hands cuffed dealing with a bunch of all-sizzle-no-steak types, but even when the Cardinals hired Petzing out of Cleveland, I was asking myself why the hell they brought him in.  The dude hasn't done much.  Gibbs value remains stable, but I'm concerned about the sun god.

I'm not sure about all of the changes.   but I will comment on a couple.

I'm with you on the Chargers.   I suspect there might be some disagreements on the coaching but maybe harbaugh just gives the ball to McDaniel and lets him go.   if that happens, I think that situation will be fine.

Baltimore I'm less sure of.   Lamar has mostly worked out of the spread in the shotgun.    There are some QBs (peyton manning) who just were not as good under centre.   some of the reads are substantially different and the reads generally are easier to make out of the gun.   Lamar has been a QB that teams have been able to confuse at times with strange blitz packages, and that will be harder to deal with when not in the gun.    Lamar isnt as quick on reading a Defense as Peyton Manning was.... (is anyone?)  so there is no guarantee he can make the transition.   I do think it will help the run game.   but in terms of the overall.... I'm just not sure.

Giants-Harbaugh is a pretty good coach.   I think he will find a way to make things work there.

Miami-I'm not sure the coaching change matters.  the team is bad and I dont think any amount of coaching change will turn this around.

Detroit-also not sure.  Zona was so different I am not sure that you can properly compare.   I think the team drafted more for the defense and seemed to want a good run game.   fairly conservative.   but if thats what you are given as a coach, do you try to run a dynamic offense?   probably not.    but he has a lot more talent than he had in zona.  so I'm keeping an open mind but part of me feels like I dont love the move.
