Horrific gun violence has once again devastated a community, this time in Minneapolis.

Praying hard for the victims, their families and the law enforcement officers who were wounded.

We must end the scourge of gun violence in America.

Wanting to end gun violence is not a political talking point, I would think that you would want that too, but I guess you don't.

It sucks that we have another one of these.

In these two lines.... dude was getting evicted and police have not confirmed a motive... I'm saying its a 99% chance that first point lead directly to the second but let them do the work first to confirm.

Remember this is the guy that made a dozen posts blaming mamdani for the central park stabber.  He's a troll.

All good, man. Thanks. I was in that area over the weekend, but Mpls hasn't been my stomping ground for over 20 years. I'm safely tucked away in a much smaller city 75 miles away.

If we ban guns, can we ban people like this for their violence?

So, more details are coming out about the shooter.  This guy was a walking time bomb.   Had a million red flags and something like 34 priors.   Had threatened shooting people and had a history of walking around the apartment complex with a handgun.  Cops had been called to his apartment hours before the shooting.  Why was this guy even on the street?  Oh, never mind.  I know.

We watched a kid go in to an elementary school in Sandy Hook and whack dozens of kids and they didn’t lose a minute Sleep over it.

They need their mags in their clips and they’re 500 rounds a second for some mythical shootout They think they’re going to have in their home. Or they have to be tough guy going strapped up to get Froot Loops at the store.

A completely bizarro paranoid world. But they have to have them because why? All of the guns everyone else has. It really is incredible logic

I was tepid toward gun control for awhile.  Nowadays I'm very much against any form of gun control.

My opinion shifted after the George Floyd riots.  A career criminal got killed by a cop.  The cop was held to account, and the government weaponized riots in order to sway public opinion, and only stepped in to stop them after polls showed the riots were starting to turn voters against them.

I can't support any restrictions on guns when the government will order police to stand down when their property is being destroyed for policial purposes.  Property and business owners need the ability to defend themselves when the government weaponizes the mob again because it surely will happen.

We have 1 handgun  and guns don’t kill , people do. The lunatic in Times Square killed a poor woman and stabbed a guy , she did it not the knife. Lindsey Clancy strangled her children with exercise bands, maybe we need a waiting period to buy them . I’ve seen how fast people give up their rights and conform under covid and never going to forget. I’m not into gun culture but I’m not going down that slippery slope

Yeah, but this gets back to the same argument. If you’re using exercise bands, or a knife or a baseball bat to kill someone you are misusing that object from its intended purpose being created. Guns when they’re used are doing exactly what they were designed for by the Chinese for war and that’s to kill other living things notably humans.

I don’t know I mean, I don’t think either one of us wants to devote 10 pages back-and-forth. I just think it’s kind of a bizarre paranoid world. I’m not gonna live in. That gets me clipped at the grocery store getting milk then so be it. I’m not going all Rambo to get milk.

What they were designed for doesn't matter to me.  What does is that our founding fathers, who were far wiser than I will EVER be, saw their need in our society to the point that they gave them an explicit carve out in our founding documents.  And it disturbs me that so many people want to chip away at those protections due to the actions of a minuscule percentage of irresponsible or evil gun owners.  And they use anecdotes to support their stance instead of data.

I don't own a gun.  Probably never will because I realize I'm a clumsy oaf who would probably end up shooting himself.  But I respect their benefit and place in our society.  There is a reason The United States is the best country on Earth.  It's not just guns but it is our constitution and values.  And why so many people want to turn us in to Europe is beyond me.  We LEFT Europe.

So should Black people still be viewed as 2/3 of a person in women can’t vote and all the other wise things they thought back then?

now I’m gonna say the left is bastardized the 14th amendment but that’s another one that conservatives want change so it’s a little hard for me to say oh we shouldn’t change anything but then there’s all these things that make no sense

So I mean in one hand, you can’t say you don’t understand why people want to chip away at them while you watch the Republican Party literally chipping away at it as well

This was changed via constitutional amendment.  If gun control nuts want more gun control they can pass an amendment changing the 2nd.  I would have no say in that because that is how our process works, and why I said they are trying to chip away at the 2nd.  So there is no comparison between gun rights and the bolded.  One was changed the proper way; one is being changed via end arounds.

And no, Conservatives are not changing the 14th.  I assume you're talking about birthright citizenship.  That would be a separate discussion but no Conservatives are not trying to change that.  They are trying to get it's original purpose reinstated.

The perpetrator of this crime was referred to correctly in this thread by @Strike as a “walking time bomb.”

Simply put I would like to live in a society in which walking time bombs do not have easy access to firearms. I would like to do this in a way that does not infringe upon the 2nd Amendment rights of lawful Americans who are not walking time bombs.

Surely this is a reasonable ask?

Well, I mean they just lost the Supreme Court case over it.

Right advocates against guns can change the amendment but a couple of your previous statements made it sound like oh my God that’s not even negotiable. It can’t possibly be changed when that’s not really the case. I mean a lot of things can be changed. Why we don’t have the appetite for curbing how bad we are with guns? I’ll never understand but again it is what it is.

How bad we are with guns?  Is that your stance?   Are you worried about getting shot when you go outside?

I’m sorry are you under some impression that we’re good with them?

I’m not, but that doesn’t reflect what the greater public clearly thinks and they are. Big time.
