Have you ever gotten a chance to talk to a pro player?

I know too much. Here is a bit of what I can talk about. Some of the 49ers that I’ve socialized and/or worked for. Steve Young. Tries really hard to be a normal guy. So hard it’s obvious he’s trying. Also he dated the sister of someone I know well and claimed they could only have b-jobs and a-sex because he is a Mormon. Roger Craig: Did a Body-Shot demonstration with an unbelievably hot woman for me and my date when I was 17. Party Animal. Ronnie Lott: Totally Professional. Actually intimidating in social scenes as well. Didn’t like young people around him. Joe and Jennifer Montana. Stone cold. So focused on family that social settings were almost awkward. Would huttle with Bill Walsh any time the two were together at the same party/event and ignore everyone. Bill’s wife would have to pull him away. Always left early. Nice guy but boring as hell. Jerry Rice: Likes to be the center of attention. Definitely enjoys the ladies. Thinks he’s funny. Ricky Watters: Got to know him really well. A player. Great times. You can imagine. T.O.: Another guy that wanted to be normal away from the game and couldn’t. Acted insecure all the time and very quiet. Great pool player. I was in a long term relationship with Ricky Henderson’s (Oakland A’s) cousin so I spent a lot of time in high profile Party Circles in Oakland as well. Though I can’t talk about Ricky or the Raider Players. However Al Davis was super cool. Every time I met him he was almost beyond casual. Real life Sopranos character before the show existed. Real guy. Real funny. Taken too seriously by the media. Maverick. Golden State Warriors. Knew a lot of them well too. Went to a Parliament/Funkadelic show with Tim Hardaway and Tyrone Hill. Stevie Wonder was the surprise guest. Didn’t talk to Stevie backstage. Billy Owens. Hung out with him a lot. A good friend of mine was buddies with his best friend. Billy’s best friend’s job was basically taking care of day to day business (laundry) and getting him girls. A lot of girls. Chris Gatling. Really funny. Like a big kid. Reminded me of highschool. Chris Webber: Was friends with Digital Underground members. Full of himself. Fun at parties, but a pain in the ass. Thought he was the better then everyone. Some others I can expand on. Barry Sanders: Likes golf. Was as round as a golf ball when I played with him in England. Wants to be left alone. I pretended I didn’t know who he was. Bo Jackson: Rarely talks. Likes to laugh. Stands around a lot socially. Jim Plunket: Friend of my mom’s. Nice guy. Do gooder type guy. Rodney Peete: Was at Club Med with him and his USC buddies after he lost the Heisman trophy voting. They were all kicked out and asked to leave the island after the 2nd night. It was ugly. I could go on and on and on. But I’ve got to go to sleep.

Is the Miami defense still a top FF unit?

Same story. I drafted them with high hopes. Good numbers last year. 06' Defensive MVP and they added Porter to the already strong LBs. Dropped them after I heard Thomas would sit. Picked up Indy. I figure I might be able to pick them up agian if I need them. Offense and Coach look terrible.

    Randy Moss/Wes Welker

Yes, but not this week against the Chargers.

    ***Official Week #2 College Football***

"Not a fan of Michigan, but I think they respond to last week's loss with a W. in the big house. If they Lose. It will set the program back 4 years at least. No way. " This is a quote from me earlier in the week. I was wrong. Record setting wrong.

    Week 1 Great Plays

Guys I'm starting that I picked late are. Henderson, Saints: Think this will be a high scoring affair. Must start 3 WRs. Vikes Defense At Home against the Falcons with Rookie Head Coach and Vick situation. Who I don't know about, yet I'm starting them. Jamal Lewis over T. Bell. This is my #2 RB choice for the next few weeks. Ouch. Jerry Porter over Patric Crayton: Welcome to hell in my other league. Must start 3 and one of these guys has to fill my #3 WR spot.
  7. With the final cuts being made I suspect some teams will make possibly significant moves in the fantasy football world. Any guesses? Leftwhich traded to Atlanta for an undisclosed draft pick? The Packers sign or trade for a RB? Player gets arrested?

    trading holt

Hard to say since we don't know who your other RBs and WRs are.
  9. Mad Matt

Any injury updates to Portis and T. Jones?

I didn't event this saying but, "Please call me when your league expands to 3 teams and allows heteros."

Testing a new strategy this year

Two key things that I learned from this. RBs win if you get the good ones early. Its the truth. Quote from above: The guy that drafts Peyton Manning in our league has lost the last few years. Agreed. Same as my league. Even when he broke the record. In my league, if ever there was a time to try it it's this year. Yes it is a gamble, almost a stupid gamble. Regardless trying it might be worth it.

    Tatum Bell?

Scared as hell of him and I have him as my #2 RB right now. Hope he plays some Thur. And some good.

Testing a new strategy this year

I'm glad I'm not crazy and someone else considered this too. I've got a 10 team re-draft tomorrow, 4pts passing TDs, 6pts others. average yardage bonuses. We start 2 RBs and 2 WRs or 1 RB and 3 WRs (run and shoot). This is the 10th year of the league and never has anyone tried to draft a Run and Shoot Team. I think it would be fun to try. I've got the 6th pick and if Peyton is there I thought I'd go: Peyton #6 Harrison #15 Wayne #26 A. Johnson #35 Then I'd pick a bunch of gamble type backs (T. Bell, B. Jackson, D. Williams). I would only need 1 to start. Another key was getting a good D. I'd draft Balt or Chi as soon as the other was picked if possible.
  13. Mad Matt

    Just finished!

These types of posts would be much better if you posted the Whole Draft. It's hard to tell how you did if can't see who's available. Anyway. Nice RBs, a lot of depth there.

    Lynch vs. Peterson

I'd go Peterson and I live in the Bay Area and have seen a lot of Lynch. Everyone has seen what Peterson can do if you ever watch college football games or highlights. Both should be good pros I just think Peterson is the better prospect, Fantasy or NFL. The problem is he hasn't stayed healthy. If he didn't get dinged up so much he'd have been the #1 pick, not Russel. In my opinion. Lynch is a guy that will play hard. And I mean smashmouth. You're gonna get a good guy either way. I think Peterson has more talent.

Does anyone out there actually like Lamont Jordan?

It's not just the O-Line that is a mess in Oakland it's the QB situation as well. If you get Jordan, Rhodes or even Porter in the late - or maybe late, late rounds of the draft and don't have to depend on them you're rolling the dice still when you start one of them and hope they put up numbers. The D is all they have now.
