gphil 0 Posted August 28, 2006 I would estimate 7 of the 12 teams are run by people that have no clue and like to pick popular names instead of win. Example, the girl picking 1st is rumored to be leaning towards Peyton Manning. So, since we do not get points per reception, and play 2-RB's, 2-WR's and a WR/RB flex, I am seriously considering going with R. Brown or Rudi Johnson first, since I know they'll be there. Then, I am leaning toward Willie Parker 2nd, and I am thinking of taking C. Taylor or Gore 3rd, maybe even Ahman. Any thoughts would be helpful.
jizzatch 0 Posted August 28, 2006 If they are the amateurs you claim, then you should be able to load up on a couple solid rb's in the 1st two rounds, then go WR or even a third RB. I picked 8th in my league and got Jackson, Caddy, and McGahee in the 1st three rounds. Then, I went WR in the next three picks and got Roy Williams, Donald Driver, and Derrick Mason. Then, I took Bulger in the 7th. As you know, RB's are a commodity. Some guy in our league took Brady in the 1st round. I was scratching my head, because there are really about 6 QBs that you could lump together in the 2nd tier after Manning. I went RB first 3 rounds and still got decent quality at all three key positions (see my sig). Hope this helps. http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.p...howtopic=225508
Matt mcgahee 0 Posted August 28, 2006 I like the 1st pick--Ronnie and Rudi are both sure thing No. 1 picks. Willie Parker as your #2 wouldn't be bad, but you might want to consider Westbrook (injuries always a concern though)? I think Chester Taylor as your #3 back might be a bit ambitious, although it's possible he'd be available. Consider Warrick Dunn here as well. All in all, I think your best bet would be to have a group of 3-5 RBs that, if available when your 3rd pick comes around, you take them. This could include...Taylor, Dunn, Gore, (even Corey Dillon and Jamal Lewis??) and whoever else you think. If any of those guys aren't around, don't set yourself on taking a RB just because you decided you wanted 3 to start.
gphil 0 Posted August 28, 2006 Thanks!!! This is just what I am looking for. The question is then, who are the RB's I can take in the 3rd without hurting my team. I just know that C. Taylor, F. Gore, Reggie Bush, Kevin Jones, and/or Ahman Green will be there. Guys like J Lewis and W Dunn will be gone (too early) just because they are recognizable names. Okay maybe Ahman too. So, Is there anyone that thinks that I should pass on Taylor, Gore, Bush, or K Jones: Assuming: A) I will be able to get 2 quality (tier 4 at least) WR's in 4 and 5 I start off with something like R Brown/R Johnson/C Williams (#1) and W Parker/W McGahee (#2) Is it worth it to pass on a tier 2 WR in the 3rd round to get a tier 3 RB, in a league that plays 2RB, 2WR, and a RB/WR flex? ***No points per reception. dalie 2 Posted August 28, 2006 Personally I think Taylor could be a good RB3 with the line he is behind. He seems a little weaker this pre season then I would think but he seems to be running a lot to the right side "testing" that side knowing the left side is where the money is. See mine please http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.p...howtopic=225628
jizzatch 0 Posted August 28, 2006 3rd Rb would be either Chester Taylor or Dunn. I think Dunn might be around in the 3rd, though probably not at your slot in the round. Maybe Bush. Thanks for mine
Turf Nazi 0 Posted August 28, 2006 I am of the opinion, if you can get 3 RB's in the 1st three rounds, do it. RB's were literally flying off the boards in my draft, so it made it difficult to find that really good 2nd or 3rd tier RB. If you can get a Fitzgerald, Smith, or other solid 1st tier WR in the 3rd round, do it. If you are playing w/ amateurs, you can probably work some pretty boneheaded trades w/ them during the season if you are missing that last couple of puzzle peices. Nice work on getting in this league, and email me on how to get into it next year Thanks for looking at my post. Good luck TN
gphil 0 Posted August 29, 2006 Okay, does this make sense then: Assuming I go RB-RB, if Chester Taylor or Frank Gore are available, I take them. If they are gone, I go best WR possible. Even if tier 1's are there. I just think there is a very deep WR pool this year and we don't get points per catch. ???

If these people are the amatures you say they are, I just don't think you will need to grab either of these guys that early,. My draft last night, granted it was auto, but both Taylor & Gore went in the 12th. Now I'm not saying to wait that long, but I think you could pick up a top 10-15 WR in the 3rd and maybe 4th and pick up either of these guys in the 4th or 5th, preferably Taylor
