    Draft strategy to win

I forget where I read the article but it showed that if you look at top 5 WRs vs top 5 RBs.. Numbers drastically favors WRs.

    Sleeper TEs?

I might take a flyer on baby gronk if I can get him for cheap $10.

    Sleeper TEs?

Sums up my life last year. I will be spending some coin this year for either gronk or jimmy and letting others to play musical tight ends. Larry Donnell can suck ma ballz

I want no part of Frank Gore

Haha I knew I shouldn't have mentioned Blount but just wanted to illustrate how much safer Gore is as comparison. Some people like safe...wearing khakies and driving volvos.

I want no part of Frank Gore

My eval of the middle tier RBs (Melvin, Blount, Yeldon, Hyde, Ivory, Latavius) Gore is probably the safest bet. His ceiling is lower than most but I love that he'll be running on 7 in the box on majority of his carries due to the Andrew Luck effect. Last year, even gimpy Bradshaw and ballard and I forget the other guy, looked relevant. I was talking so much about gore last year about how he was done and his legs are shot but he churned out some solid games with a struggling SF line. I'm not gonna make that mistake this year. If I can get him a shade under $20, I'm jumping all over that. Side note: out of the list i mentioned, I would probably take Latavius then a tie between Gore and Blount. I'm not touching those rookies or Hyde.

Who makes the Playoffs - H2H or High Scoring

I had an interesting idea yesterday... Might be slight off topic but what do you guys think about a longer playoff and shorter regular season? In a 12 teamer, shorten the regular season to 11 weeks so that everyone plays each other once. I always hated getting matched up with the top teams and playing them twice while others get lucky and matched with bottom feeders. Then for playoffs, opening round (wk12)is the same 1 week format but you extend the Semi's (wk13-14) and Finals (wk15-16) as a two week affair. Take the sum of two weeks in the new format to declare a winner of the match up. I think that will cut down on the 20 point kicker effect on your chances of winning. I'm not sure how the rest of my league mates will feel about the idea but definitely makes it more fun for people on top. 2 week series! Haha
  9. Megatron has been a perennial projected #1 WR for as long as I can remember and this is the first year, I think he falls in the 2nd tier cream of the crop. Does that make him a value pick? To channel my "frozenbeernuts"... he's 6.5 and ran a 4.35 at the combine. jk. I know he's had injury problems where he missed 2-3 games last two years and his numbers dipped a lot last year.. BUT he's still megatron right? Is there a fantasy death sentence at age 30 like there is with running backs? Im thinking I might be able to steal him in the draft for like $35-40 bucks. He's always been around $50 last few years. Thoughts? Good idea or bad?

Is Megatron a value pick this year?

I think he causes at lot of grief for owners last year is why he's coming off the board @ 6th - 8th Wr taken. I would take Demar and definitely Dez over calvin but I'm talking if there was an opportunity to grab Calvin at tier 2 prices, if I would pull that? Im wondering if last year was sign of more to come or if that was a floor and he will return to greatness? He's 29 going on 30 during season i think.

    Auction League stratagy.

Actually $90 would get you 1 stud @$55 and 1 mid value guy @$25, then $10 to fill your bench. You'll see once you start running a few scenarios, that money doesn't stretch very far. $70 for WR will net you one stud @$40, one mid value guy @$20 and $10 to fill your bench. I think my overall point was lost on you Joneo. If you dont have the time or patience to do your research, you should just light your money on fire and continue to pay league dues every year and have 0 return on investment.

    Auction League stratagy.

The best advice I can give is to run as many scenarios as possible to prepare for the draft. There are probably billion permutations of players you can have on your team. It's like running a mock draft with yourself. You don't need anyone but yourself because at auction you can target anyone you want and control how much you pay for someone. Start with a spreadsheet, separated by positions that tallys the subtotals per position and a field tallying amount of money left. So you can clearly see how much money you have left to play with as you're filling your roster. Now you can start plugging people in. Changing people out and plugging them back in. I've been doing this for a couple weeks now. My wife just shakes her head... What would happen if I took two stud RBs? What if I put both ODB and Julio on my team? How can I afford for the rest of my team? What would happen if I drafted ARod and gronk? Where are the sneaky value mid-tier guys that will allow me to overspend at those positions. You can do this forever but this is the only way you'll be prepared for the auction. Cuz before you know it, you'll find yourself drafting someone that wasn't on your draft sheet because you got them at good value or you got carried away and overspent and you'll panic. If you run scenarios long enough, you can narrow yourself into a strategy. I want to spend on a stud RB this year so I'm allocating 90 dollars for RBs. I think I can get value at WR so I'm allocation 70 for WRs etc... And write out who those people are on your spreadsheet. Hopefully, your league mates won't derail your strategy too bad. Good luck

Is Megatron a value pick this year?

Sorry that question wasn't meant to be repeated back to you. Haha I think I'm talking to myself... Trying to convince myself it's a good idea. My draft is this Sunday... I'll probably rewrite my draft cheatsheet a million times by then.

Is Megatron a value pick this year?

But I think it's because people overpaid for him. He still had 1000 yards 8 tds. If we say that's his floor? and you can get him as the 6-8th WR off the board... wouldn't that make him a value pick for this year?

    Rookie RBs and WRs....

Off the top of my head... ODB, mike evans, Lacy

    J. Matthews upside limited as a slot WR?

I think there was another thread that covered Matthews and is worth a read. http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=446436 I went out and acquired Matthews in a preseason trade in a keeper league a few days ago. I dont really care if he plays slot or outside. He's their WR1 until Agholor proves otherwise. I'll take that any day in chip kelly's offense. He's gonna get his snaps and targets.

Preseason Games - Week 1 Discussion

Just my humble opinion... I would rather play musical chairs at QB rather than musical chairs at RB. Im in a 14 teamer as well and the waiver wire is a desert for running backs. If you miss at RB, you're not gonna be able to even attempt at a trade for a RB either because no one has depth. Maybe my league is unique.. who knows. Rbs, to me, seem like a premium in my 14 teamer.
  18. I have gotten lucky to stay out of the New England RB drama last couple years and lucked out picking up Blount in their late stretches. I may have recency bias due to being a former Blount owner but can we trust Belichek this year to stick to a single RB? I just read Blount is looking far and away the best RB in camp and how he put his knee issues behind him. Blah blah... That's all great until Jonas gray makes a surprising start with 4 tds. Any pats homers with thoughts?

    Jeremy hill touches...

Hill is being kept in both my leagues this year so I don't really have to make a choice on him this year but if he was available... I would definitely BUY him in a heart beat. Marvin Lewis churns out 100 yard rushers out of scraps. BJGE, Rudi Johnson, Cedric Benson.

    L. Murray overrated?

I am seriously dying for the raiders to come back to relevance. I think they have some pieces to do it this year but I've grown cynical over the years. Year after year with guys that seem perfectly fine with losing and just cashing their paychecks. Until the culture changes, Im not sure about ANY raiders players. Im gonna say Latavius is overrated. Amari Cooper and that other WR that's "mediocre at best"... might be relevant only due to garbage time.

    Jeremy hill touches...

Yea this got a little out of hand. haha. I gotta admit, I find myself going back to google player's combine stats like Frozenbeernuts but it is usually for players that I haven't had a chance to evaluate with my own eyes. And even if I saw the combine stats, I'm not sure if it really factors as much as who he's playing being behind, the team he's on and the coach's tendencies or the scheme. I also agree with everyone else who's out to bash Frozenbeernuts that combine stats really doesn't mean after you're able to show a statistical trend with on-field stats. Its like looking at your GPA in school after you've been out in the workforce a couple years. No one cares. BUT, focusing back to Jeremy Hill, I don't see enough volume of work after only a rookie season so anything can happen. Remember last year, Lacy came off of a sensational rookie campaign with a horrific first four weeks, that had people yelling BUST!! Then, towards middle and end of the year, they were limiting his touches to keep him fresh. Even reports of 50/50 share with Starks. I mean, Lacy salvaged his season but the sophomore slump is REAL. Look at Doug Martin. Trent Richardson... Dont get me wrong, I think Hill on track with a great year playing on a team with a great OLine but, in words of Kevin Garnett... "Aaaannything is Pooossssible!"

Can we trust Belichek and his RBs this year?

Yea you guys are probably right. Plus, its not worth the stress. Back to the drawing board.
  23. smash-a-mus

Can we trust Belichek and his RBs this year?

You guys are right. The question needs a reference. If you were doing an auction draft and say you drafted a stud like Lacy and wanted to fill the RB2 with someone of $15-$25 range player with a lot of upside. Who would you target? Im looking at the list and that looks like this... Gore, Ellington, Joique, Randle, Yeldon, Stewart, Blount, Jennings, Ivory My eyes keep heading to Blount for some reason. (probably because he's done well for me in the past). AIso I think I can probably get him on the low side at $15 bucks due to people's bias towards Belichek and his Rbs ("Avoid the hoodie" as they say) and his 1 day suspension. If he ends up locking up the job... he could be a monster. I dont have a lot of experience owning Pat's Rbs, when is the last time Belichek had a bellcow? Corey Dillon?
  24. I got one for you guys. Its fantasy championship game 2013... I'm actually on my honeymoon at the time, I convince the wife to let me watch the deciding game SF vs ATL where it is his Niners Defense vs. My kicker Phil Dawson. With 1 minute left to go in the game, I am up by 9 pts. Im feeling pretty good and I'm receiving texts from other league mates, congratulating me or whatever. UP by 9 with a minute left with only his defense puts me at 99% chances of winning I think. Feeling great. Then the unthinkable... I think at the time, ATL was down by a score and was throwing on every down. A ball gets tipped and picked for 6... ME.. He got 2 for the pick and 6 for the INT but I had phil dawson so i got 1 on that. That put the score at just a shade under 2 points. Clock's ticking and ATL continues their aerial assault and gets into field goal range. Down by 2 scores in the game so they actually line up to kick when SF calls a TD to ice the kicker. When they come back from the timeout, they changed their minds about kicking and decide to throw up a hailmary..... THAT ENDS UP GETTING PICKED OFF!!! 2 points for my friend and that's how I lost by less than .2 for the championship. 2 picks and a TD in the last minute of the game to win it by 0.2pts..... Still hurts to this day.
