    NBA Free Agency 2010

As a Bulls fan, I came into this with high hopes of scoring LeBron and either Bosh or Boozer. I thought Wade going back to Miami was a complete formality and never even considered him as an option. He's either throwing up a huge smoke screen or realized that if Miami only brought in Bosh, they still don't have much of a shot in the East. I never really thought that he was a good fit with Rose, but at this point there is a better shot of him leaving than LeBron. Miami gutted that team too much to give them a shot unless they could get Wade/LeBron/Bosh, which they won't because none of those guys will leave max money on the table. If LeBron stays in Cleveland, I think Wade leaves Miami for Chicago and Bosh joins him. While I don't think he's as good of a fit on that team as LeBron would be, that still makes Chicago a top three team in the East. Hopefully LeBron decides to move on, signs with the Bulls, and Bosh joins him. If not, the Bulls settle for Lee or Boozer and end up regressing due to the other moves they made to clear salary.

    UFC 116 Lesnar vs. Carwin

I think those are fair points but I think Carwin has better boxing than anyone in the HW division, and that was the only shot to beat Lesnar. You're definitely right that Cain won't gas like Carwin did, though. I think that was what was most disappointing. Carwin was built up to be a much better fighter than he really is. At the end of the day, he's a big boxer with zero cardio that has never had to manage a fight before. I think he'll learn from this and we'll see a good rematch between him and Lesnar down the road. As far as Cain-Lesnar goes, I think Lesnar's wrestling is too much for Cain to handle and he doesn't box as well as Carwin does to give Lesnar a fight on his feet. Taking the beating that he did told a lot about Lesnar. The question on him was how he would react to getting touched, and though he was close to getting beat, I don't think anyone else can get him in that same position. Who knows, though...everyone has that puncher's chance and it's why we love the sport.

    UFC 116 Lesnar vs. Carwin

One of the best top to bottom cards in a while. Bonnar and Leben wins were extremely impressive, and Chris Lytle needs to be in the mix for a title shot. The main event was outstanding. Lesnar really needs to work on his boxing. For Brock to lose again, it's going to take a big guy like Carwin to do it. Lesnar is going to walk through Valazquez. Hopefully Carwin gets the winner of Dos Santos-Nelson for another title shot. If Carwin improves his cardio, he can beat Lesnar. I think there were a couple of points where the ref could have stopped that fight, but it was the right call to let it go. Either way, I was shocked that Lesnar weathered that. You could see in Carwin's eyes in between rounds that he was done. Impressive finish by Brock. Next two cards are going to be good ones as well. That Boston card is absolutely stacked.

    UFC 115

Better than expected. The Condit-MacDonald match was definitely the fight of the night. Condit was probably losing the fight going into the last round and then absolutely destroyed MacDonald. Barry-Cro Cop was a little disappointing. Barry could have jumped on Cro Cop a couple of times but seemed to back off maybe out of not wanting to finish off his hero. I guess he also broke his foot and hand which may also explain why he was a little tentative. Yvel-Rothwell was pretty terrible. Kampman-Thiago was pretty entertaining. Kampman looked much better than expected. Pretty one-sided fight, but decent. Liddell-Franklin was good while it lasted. Chuck came out very aggressive. Threw a lot more kicks than normal. Unfortunate that it ended when it did, but they definitely put on a good show for a round. The Spike fights were pretty terrible.

    UFC 115

I'm on the same side with you on each of these. Not sure if Liddell KOs Franklin, but he looked great in the preview show. It will be interesting to see if he can actually make another run. Cro Cop is not the same Cro Cop, regardless of what anyone (including Barry) is saying. Barry is going to be too strong from him to deal with. MacDonald and Condit will be interesting. I expected more out of Condit when he came over from WEC. I think he drops another one tonight. The Spike prelims should be decent too. This has to be Danzig's last shot with the company before they ask him to drop to 145 like Gamburyan. Overall, not a very strong card but I'll watch it. Disappointing when there aren't any fights for belts or to set up next contenders for belts. Hard to justify buying it, but whatever.

    UFC 113

He didn't the first time around. Hopefully Kos' striking has improved enough to give him a shot to set up his takedowns a little better. I think it will be a better fight than the first time around, but he's still going to get outclassed. At least we may get some new GSP soundbites out of the TUF show.

    UFC 113

I thought overall that it was a great card. Shogun looked amazing. It looks like he really did have a tough time coming over after his knee injuries. Looking forward to seeing him taking on the winner of Rampage / Rashad. Koscheck / GSP is going to be a boring, technical fight. Only chance Kos has to beat him is to outwrestle him, which he couldn't do the first time. Most likely this will be a 50-45 decision for GSP, similar to the Hardy fight. Daley is a complete c*nt. I'm glad that Dana cut him immediately. He may have only been suspended if it wasn't for the Strikeforce brawl a couple of weeks ago, but I can't argue with the decision. Totally classless move by that POS. Good decision on cutting Kimbo. He couldn't even move in the second round. Mitrione still has a lot of work to do before he jumps to the next tier of heavyweights, but he looked much improved. Belcher looked great but needs to prove himself at least once more before getting a title shot. Stephens-Stout stole the show. Stephens probably gets Guida next to see where he's at in the LW ranks. Tom Lawlor, while entertaining, is a terrible fighter. All the guy can do is box. Disappointed by his showing.

Pistons will sign Gordon and Villanueva

Bump. Go ahead and blame injuries all you want, but both of these signings were absolute failures. Gordon has his worst year of his career and Villanueva was pretty much garbage most of the year. As predicted, they were one of the worst defensive teams in the league. What's the move now? Everyone still standing by the decision to dump Billups' salary? Seems like Denver is pretty happy about the decision. I'd be calling for Dumars job if I was a Pistons fan.

Pistons will sign Gordon and Villanueva

It doesn't really matter. Gordon wanted to get paid and this was the only offer he was going to get north of $10M/year. Gordon will handle the quicker point guards? Did you watch him get smoked by Rondo in the playoffs? That is par for the course with him. Never in a good position, much slower than most PGs. He absolutely is a terrible defender. They're definitely better than they were at the end of last season...that wasn't the argument. They shed AI's dead weight contract, which was the goal when they traded Billups. Are they better than they were when they had Billups? Debatable but I'd lean towards 'no'. Realistically, they can still add a Kaman or Chandler to that mix and sutbract Hamilton. I don't think that looks too appealing of a lineup either.

Pistons will sign Gordon and Villanueva

The difference with Gordon is that you may get 20+ out of him, but you'll give up almost that many on driving layups (see Rondo, Rajan). It's a lot of money to pay a one-dimmentional player to come off your bench. Even if he develops some defensive capabilities as you are hoping, he's going to struggle guarding bigger guards, which he's going to have to do when paired with Stuckey. This happened for years when he played with Hinrich. I agree with your assessment on Stuckey. They traded Billups with the hopes that they wouldn't lose much at the PG position with Stuckey stepping up, but that hasn't happened. Hopefully they go out and get Avery Johnson as I think he'd do a decent job working with him.

Pistons will sign Gordon and Villanueva

So you're going to pay $11M/year for points off of the bench? Then when Hamilton goes, you're going to expect the 6'2" Gordon to guard shooting guards? It didn't work in Chicago, I don't think it will work in Detroit either. That's the problem with Gordon, he's a better suited PG because of his size but he can't handle the ball so that doesn't work. If Rip and Brown's deals come off the books, I don't see why Bosh would want to come play with a team whose nucleus is Gordon, Stuckey, Villanueva, and Prince. There will be better options out there for him. Bottom line, I think they would have been better off keeping the team they had intact.
  24. S.D. Jones

Pistons will sign Gordon and Villanueva

I think these are terrible moves for the Pistons. It started last year with trading Billups for AI to free up cap space. That cap space is then used to bring in Gordon, who isn't half the player that Billups is. Then Sheed is let go to bring in Villanueva, who has been very inconsistent and also plays no defense. The Pistons are again with no cap space. Gordon was never happy coming off the bench and neither him or Hamilton is going to be happy splitting minutes. If Hamilton is traded, a backcourt of Gordon and Stuckey will get absolutely torched. Gordon is a hell of a shooter, but that's all he is. To tie up over $11M a year in him is idiotic. He can't play defense and he can't handle the ball well enough to play the point. Bosh isn't even an option unless they shed about $15M of payroll and I don't see how they do that. If they manage to do it, which would surely be through trading Rip for an expiring deal, I think there would be many other situations out there that would be more appealing for Bosh than Detroit.
