He's on record as saying he would expand presidential powers and limit federal-agency independence. He also is on record as saying he would go after his political enemies if elected. This was right out of the authoritarian playbook. Our system of checks and balances is in peril. Hopefully him being at the business end of how this country's extremism can manifest itself will change his paradigm and inspire him to focus on issues instead of hypercatastrophizing, misinformation, finger-pointing and vindictive threats. It's a good sign that he has said he is rewriting his RNC speech to focus on unity instead of Biden. I have my doubts this leopard will change his spots, but we'll see.

I'm encouraged by this as well. My hope is that this incident serves as the moment that Trump and Biden focus on their platforms instead of lobbing ch!t at each other and the country as a whole dials back the angry rhetoric and develops a spirit of acceptance, compromise and unity.

This was an historic American moment, the likes of which we haven't seen. I'm hoping this serves as a moment to bring unity and snuff out the mindless angry partisan rhetoric. I'm hoping this serves as a moment of reflection and change. It sure has with me.

It's amazing that you think the right has never incited any violence, despite a registered Republican attempting to shoot Trump. Despite Jan. 6. Despite so much documentation that right-wing extremists being far more responsible for homicides and violence in this country. My question was whether the far right was responsible for violence in this country, meaning any violence. Let me rephrase: You're saying that the far right has NEVER committed any violence in this country?

He's also playing the God card again, so now all the evangelicals will be posting memes of angels, Jesus or God hisself deflecting the bullet.

At least this post marks some progress away from blindly blaming Democrats for the assassination attempt.

Meanwhile, the right constantly calls Biden a pedophile, despite the egregious sexual and felonious misconduct of their own candidate. I don't particularly like Biden, but he has been a decent president. Inflation is deflating, the stock market is hitting record highs, gas prices are reasonable, unemployment is at or near record lows, wages are up, an historic infrastructure law is being implemented and border encounters are down. Sure, food prices are still high, but do us a favor and go out of your way a bit to actually show instead of tell that this president is such a monumental failure. It's quite the opposite, in fact. I wish he'd step aside and let someone else run, but it is what it is if he doesn't, and I'd vote for his rotting body in a grave over Trump.

Simple question: Is the far right responsible for political violence in this country?

The extremes of both sides of the political spectrum have been inciting political violence. You only can accept that it's coming from the left, and the far right is pure and passive as the driven snow. Step up, admit that it comes from the far right as well and condemn all violence.
